Default J&M Rokker XT 7.25" Only ??

Hey Folks,

I have a 1012 Ultra Limited. Looking for a reasonable upgrade. My question is, has anyone installed a set of the Rokker XT 7.25" as a replacement speaker in your fairing without adding an amp or any other mods - just the speakers? What did you think, was it quite a difference over stock?

Anybody ever see any before and after db measurements of such a change?

Thanks,

Don

DB? Any speaker is going to require some power behind them to be driven efficiently. With that said, you really should look around in the audio forum to see what folks are liking for speaker replacement both with only head unit and with amplifiers.

Hey Don. I see where you are going and will save you some time digging.

J&M seem to make a premium speaker (so says the price). Some great amps (rebadged ARC Audio), and other goodies that are really unique and valuable depending on your needs (example: stock HU on ultra - adding bluetooth), with matching and easy wiring. At a premium.

absolutely nothing wrong with that. BUT at the price they charge it's tough to swallow the quality vs equivalents in price. They won't give specs for their speakers to really compare apples to apples. 1w 1m or 1w 2.83v? Freq curve or anything really "nuts and bolts" to the audiophile guys.

Are they better than stock - ABSOLUTELY! Better when amped - what isn't!?! But for the $ - i think you can do better.

I've now done 2 setups. Mine is all biketronics (similar to J&M price wise) - plug and play w/ everything you need to finish w/o trips to the store. They use HAT (hybrid audio) speakers - google them and IASCA. They know what they are doing. Great speakers in general and a bit $$$ as a result.

Second setup on my brother's bike using much less expensive components - damn am i impressed! Polk MM651's (6.5" coax) sound amazing.

Using just the MM651's (not your J&M's you asked about, but...), i measured their SPL dB. About the same volume and loudness. But soooo much clearer and better SQ. Especially the mids. Warm and clear - really liked that as a standalone upgrade. Amped they are F'ing LOUD! All the way to max volume/distortion - Clear with great mids!

I can see why so many folks are impressed. For 1/2 the price of the Biketronics Titan II's - it's not half the speaker! Can't wait to have both done and compare side by side, but still think the 7.1 Titan II's by Biketronics are better SQ.

If you want dB and louder - get an amp! For an ultra you are going to have some basic decisions and need to match components. Don't just buy piecemeal w/o a plan.

Start reading and ask more questions when you know what you want. Lots of helpful folks - especially UN.

HTH - GL!

dforeid ,,,,,,,

if you don't plan to install a really big amp, or no amp at all, these J&M 7.25" speakers will give you more sound on the highway than the ROKKER XTs http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....D=HCSK-7252GTM ,,,,

sl33py ,,,,,,,

take a look at this J&M designed 500w 4-ch amp, assembled in the same factory in China as the ARC, cranking up our ROKKER series speakers ,,,,,,,

nothing wrong with the components YOU have chosen, but please don't pooh-pooh the J&M ROKKER stuff, till you hear what we have been able to achieve going down the highway ,,,,,

and if you do get a chance to pull up to the J&M audio trailer at one of the summer shows, let's compare what you have put together to our tequila sunrise StreetGlide ,,,,, I think you will be impressed ,,,,,,

How LOUD ?? J&M ROKKER XT Harley Audio System - YouTube ,,,,,,
John - appreciate the feedback. I respect your company and absolutely agree you make some great options for Amps and other unique offerings for Harleys. At a bit of a premium - but nothing wrong with that! I'm not afraid of wiring, but appreciate plug-n-play too!

My comments on your speakers however is spot on. I'd love to see a detailed spec sheet on your 7.25" Rokker XT's. Freq response? Sensitivity at 1w 1m, or 2.83v if you'd like? etc.

This is detail that is readily available from your competitors, and any major speaker manufacturer, and i find it tough to understand why it's not provided for your product!?

I looked at your products before i ordered mine. Not "pooh-pooh"'ing your entire ROKKER line - you have some great amps! Just don't get your speakers and lack of detail for them.

In fact I like a lot about them - the upgraded speaker brace, the Neo magnet, etc... just missing the specs to compare them against their equivalents. without that REQUIRED detail (IMO), i went another direction for my setup.

To be clear. I won't be doing any comps. And never going to pull up next to someone and compare my setup against theirs and who's is louder. Who's is "louder" is like dropping trow to compare who is "longer"... not my deal. I'm pretty comfortable with what i ride, what i listen to, and who i am. BUT I'd love to hear your setup next time in my area! Yours very well may be louder! That's cool. I'm looking for the best SQ i can afford (willing to spend), in a very un-SQ environment.

So please let me know when you have the ROKKER 7.25" XT specs to share - that would really be helpful to all those looking at your speakers.

And next time J&M is up in Seattle please let me know! I really would like to hear that bike - looks gorgeous and sounded good on youtube!

Rob

Hey John. Understand you must be busy so gave you a bit to respond.

Was wondering if you saw this and had any feedback or response? I think there is a significant request for specifications, and thought you'd respond with some detail or rational for not providing specs?

So bump for a response.

I am not an Audiophile. I suffer from major voice frequency hearing loss. I now ride with earplugs 99% of the time.

With that said, I did install just a pair of the new XT rocker Kit with the two small speakers in the grill. No amp. Stock 2011 HK radio. Sound shield installed too.

There is a difference at highway speeds. I can hear my music clearer at highway speeds.

Am I happy with them? I guess for highway speeds, yes. They distort at full volume. (Yes, I have the speed adjust at 3 as recommended.) Disappointed on the distortion at full volume. Seldom run at full volume because of it. What is the root cause of the distortion I leave to the experts.

But I hope that answers the original poster's question.

I have used J&M audio from the beginning on my Street Glide. I started out with their 7.25 speakers with no amp. Later I added the amp and at about a year of use lost a right speaker. J&M covers their speakers to the original purchaser for life (I really need to send the defective one back for repair / replacement) but at the time I opted to purchase the Rokkers instead of waiting for the warrantied speaker to arrive. I have used the Rokkers / J&M amp combo for a year and for some reason the right speaker is acting up again.

Since I am not an "audiophile", if I had it to do over I would be on the fence whether I would pop for the J&M system or just go with the Harley Boom audio system. Several local folks have bought the Boom speakers and been very happy with their performance.

I am running two fairing mounted J&M 7.25's now and will be replacing them with the Polk MM651's this week. Just waiting on the Dragonfly adapters. I liked the J&M's until I installed the Polk's with the same Fosgate amp I'm running in my buddies 13 SG. The Polks sounded so much better I got sick to my stomach
Smoother, louder and CLEARER with no distortion!
J&M's are two months old and will be for sale.
