Ok, so I followed the instructions and I blew out my Right speaker on my way to Sturgis. I don't know what the difference is with the Radio Sound stereo vs. the Harmen Karden but I followed the directions to a "T" since the only instructions are for a 07 and up. I have an 04. After buying another set of the Polk Audio mm651's, I still have the same problem with awesome sound out of the right speaker and lame, quite staticy major treble sound out of the left speaker! This has to be a wiring problem. I'm not complaining about the excellent "how-to" sticky thread, but there must be a difference between the "Radio Sound" stereos and the "Harmen Karden" stereos for wiring. I got to be missing something somewhere as I've double and triple checked my wiring!
hey john.. there is no difference in the wiring itself. The only thing different is the head unit but either one are just the same as for installation goes.
Can you take the speakers and connect them directly to the head unit speaker wires vs going through the amp? This will tell us if the amp is bad. Do not leave them connected to the head unit (only for test) and you'll likely not be able to get much volume because the head unit is looking for an 8ohm speaker and these are 2.7 ohms.
Thanks for all of your help. I believe I found the problem as I was confused as the original speaker color coded wiring matched the output wiring on the radio itself! I hooked the wires correctly to the imput side and the stereo rocks, but the left speaker is still very weak. I believe I have a bad amp. I also tried the original speaker wires to the new Polks and they both work perfectly, although very weak as they aren't hooked up to the amp!
Since I bought from Sonixelectronics, I have to go through them for the exchange. After speaking with them, I have to get approval for the exchange since it has been more than 30 days since I purchased the amp. They will let me know via email. Just another hassle. I'm glad I kept the original hogtunes speakers! Not the greatest but totally reliable!
