It's not a plug and play, but it could work if you had all the correct connectors. Certainly a lot easier to do an aftermarket deck.

actually it is plug and play. the only thing that needs to be changed is the digital setting for the speed controlled volume. you'll need to go into the radio diagnostics once you get it in, and change the setting from whatever it is now to the other setting. there are only 2 just can't remember what they're called. the older bike uses analog signal for auto volume control whereas the new bikes use digital signal.

So, you're saying the pigtail is the same on the '01 and the '12?

Because the wiring harness on the '01 sitting in my garage is clearly the stock one it came with, and it is not the same as the stock one in my '08. Which the '08 models and the '12 models are the same. Why is that?

on his 01 there are (2) 23 pin connectors; one being the base audio connector which will plug right into the newer radio (this is the connector on the left looking at the back of the radio). As long as there is no CB or other module involved, you're done other than going into the diagnostics screen to set your AVC to analog mode from the currently programmed digital mode.

If you want rear speaker outputs, you'll need to connect wires to pins 1,2,24,25 on the 35 pin connector on the back of the new radio.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I bought a HK head unit, the SS PN4.520D, and the Hogtunes 2nd Amp plate to mount the SS- this all should be delivered to my door by the end of the week. Now after looking through some other threads, I have a question or two:

Found this in another thread:

98-05 use the high setting. (but 98-03 is analog and needs to be flashed)
06-13 use the J1850 setting
I'm installing this in an '01 to replace a tape deck RadioSound unit. Following ICA's info, is the flash that's apparently needed for AVC to work for me something my dealer will do, or something I need to send to ICA to do?

Then from this thread:

Is this because they just don't want to do it out of the bike, or is there something needing the full interconnect of the bike harness that's involved in setting the fader up (note: I don't know what bike the unit was pulled from, nor is it in my possession yet, so I don't know if this is even going to be an issue for me)?

And one last question: How do I get into the setup menu to change the AVC setting? Or is that something that's directly accessible from the main screen (again, I don't have the unit yet, so I can't play around to find out)?

pp6000v2.. man in your shoes I would pick up the phone and call/talk to Tony @ Iron Cross. He's more than willing to give solid information. I think you'll have a better chance at getting Tony to reflash your newer head unit than you will your dealer. Dealers are parts changers.. get too technical with them and then they try the up-sell technique with you
