So today I took out the magic box and mounted speakers on the outside of the box and just removed the grills for testing sake, since no dealers near me have them in stock.
Without the box couldn't turn gain past 5 without getting distortion at 3 bars from max volume
With the box back in with speakers outside set gain up to around 8 and sounded good.
So would you say better with the box? And better with the speakers on the outside or no difference?
With your gain at 5 and the volume almost at max before distortion without the box really isn't too bad. You really don't want to have to turn the gain way up, about half way is desired..

I would say they sound better mounted on the outside of the boom boxes.
As far as the magic box there is a wider range of volume with it. Without it, it is very loud at only half volume and the as you turn it up more sound quality goes out the window.
I am going to leave magic box in with this amp and speakers while I save/decide on my next move for a system...I like the biketronics kit but also read a lot of good stuff about focals with arc audio amps...so many choices...fortunately for me the pbr and infinitys were a xmas present so no loss there

Hello I've been following this forum for awhile. I'd figure I would ad my 2 cents.I have a 14 limited.i had 2007 street glide , I put a bagger nation house party system on it with the factory hd radio.it sounded good but at higher volume it would start to clip.that system was 6 speaker. 4 r f 6.5s and 2 rf 6by9s with cycle sounds lids.so not being satisfied called bill at bictronics after talking to him for an hour or so I decided on new headunit, amp and speakers from bictronics sony radio titan 6.5s titan 6 6by9s and 4180 amp.and I got say I never heard a better system. So fast forward when I decided to trade in I kept the system. I called bill again at bictronics and got the 7.1s and pod replacement brackets.called v-twin audio and got there adapters for the rear put the 6.5s titans in.and added the 4180 amp.tried it out and it sounded like craps.had dealer do the latest flash and still not happy. So I feel just like my old bike the radio is the week link. As soon as bictronics get the handle bar control module ready I'm pulling this pos radio.and putting my old sony in this bike.
I got the vtwin grills and kappas--
the problem is the tweeters hit the grills-- even off the bike the tweeter hits the grill leaving a 3/16" gap between the grill and outside edge of speaker
I've been trying to speak with Bill at Biketronics for the last 3 month. Calls 5 days a week, voicemail, email and still no response. I'm not going to beg someone to take my money. Onto another option for my '15 Ultra. Anyone that can give me a "don't use them" since there are lots of people who like Arc, JM and others?

I called one day and he Bill wasn't available - I think I talked to Robin - he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable with answers to all my questions. I called back a couple days later to order and got a hold of Bill quickly, he answered a few more questions and I put my order in. I had no issues.
so-I called Brian at V Twin-- because of the thickness of the Kappas-- The Vtwin grill are too shallow--
But He is making me a deeper set--
His customer service is Amazing--
Ok I need help, after reading the 146 pages of this topic I'm lost so here it goes please don't give me to much Sh&@.lol
I had a 2014 SG and I bought the J&M amp for it last year because it's plug and play, the wife wanted a bigger back seat area so I got a 14 ultra and I took the amp and harness out of the SG. Now I want to upgrade the audio. J&M wants another $250 plus for another wiring harness for the amp. The amp is 360 Perf. And I'm going to replace the the speakers with kicker 6.5 ( I know others like diffrent speakers but I have never had a problem with these models and they give me the sound I wanted before) I'm ordering the V-twin rear pod adapters for tour pack.
Would it just be easier and cheaper to start from scratch and sell the J&M amp. If so what would the cheapest solution be? I'm looking for good sound and economy..without having to cut up the harnesses on the bike. Thanks in advance
