Default Rear brakes

So this is my first time replacing rear brake pads myself.
2006 dyna street bob.
I have the service manual. All steps goin fine, till I go to replace the outside pad.
I cannot get the pad pin hole to line up. It's almost like it doesn't seat correctly.
Is there some trick I'm missing. Thanks for any help.

Just to paint better picture. I have inside pad replaced. Outside old pad removed. The new pad seems like it does not for correctly. I cannot get the pin holes to line up. I figured it would fit as easy as the new inside pad did.

Default Caliper Holes

When I change mine, I first push the pads away from the rotor with a putty knife and a screwdriver. When I put the new pads in, I use an icepick to get the alignment straight for the first hole and install the bolt. Then just jockey the other hole until it goes into the correct position.
If you have a extra pad retaining bolt, you can grind it down to make a bullet type pin that will pull the hole into the correct orientation if it is close enough to get the bullet started...both ways work.

Thanks dynarider. So it is a tight fit. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I can get one hole lined up and started, the forward hole. It's the rear hole that doesn't line up without some good force..

Default Outboard Brake Pad

You may want to take a hammer and screwdriver and just lightly tap the pad into position after putting the forward bolt in place. If you have a plastic mallet, that would be better than a steel hammer head. Just tap it...you don't need to wail on it.

Make sure you are trying to put the pads on the correct sides...they are different. The one with the two tabs goes inboard closest to the wheel and the one with the flat tab goes outboard. If you have them reversed, the outboard pad pin holes will not line up...Also, the anti-rattle spring tension on the outboard pad can make getting the pin inserted just a little more than challenging even when you have the whole caliper off.

No, you cannot ask me how I know this...

Thanks Skinman 13. I had them correct, but yep that damn anti rattle spring was what was making it tough. All is good now. Also getting those bores pushed all the way in on the inside pad was tough, with caliper still in place. All in all was a learning process. I'm starting to realize that something are easier to have my Indy do, like replace pads when I need new tires, if pads are starting to thin.haha. Skinman13 any chance you are heading to lone star rally this weekend??

Yep...went last year and the plan right now is to head on down early Saturday morning with a neighbor and one of his friends...probably come back via Freeport and up SH 288. You heading down there?
