I was thinking that there is more than one place to tap into the accessory circuit. I took a quick look at the wiring diagrams I have for 99-'05 year Dynas and I am seeing that the orange/white trace wire also branches off from the accessory fuse to the handlebar control switches. You might check the wiring diagrams on this forum and see if you can tap into the circuit in the front bundle at the handlebar wiring connectors.
I damaged my left hand loading a tank missle and even though I'm I Florida, when it drops below 50* hurts like hell so I've installed 3 sets of heat demon grips on 3 different bikes.
I'm not sure why, but I I've found that if you solder and heat shrink the connections instead of the phone wire connectors, the grips will heat up faster and get warmer. Must be a resistance issue.
I just used a crimp connector to tap into the accessory wire on cig lighter/accessory wire.
Have Heat Demons on both our bikes, wife's and mine, and they're great! At the same time they were installed I had turn signal mirrors put on; I use a tech that's real good with electrical...all soldered and shrink wrapped, staggered and tucked into the bars. I'll gladly pay someone with much more skill and experience to do a job like that right. We wander far from home on lonely roads and reliability is paramount
