I sold my Road Glide this winter and bought an 06 Dyna FXDI. It's a great low mileage bike and I am looking forward to some long rides this summer including Sturgis. Just curious how the Dyna is for long rides. I did 700 plus miles multiple times on the Road Glide in a day. I am getting the Dyna setup with the right long ride gear seat, highway pegs, fairing, etc. What's the longest ride in a day you have done? Thanks.
my longest ride was 780 miles, four hours of rain, but I was determined to sleep in my bed that night! My setup = mustang solo seat and QD windshield that's it! The pic in my sig was the very previous day.
750 back to back from Northern NY to FLA, biketoberfest 09, five days of sunshine than 1500 miles Sat and Sun back to NY. Not quite ironbutt teritory, but a true test.
Jonesee, you rock! Would love to see some pics of your ride in Iron Butt mode.
Bagger51, longest slog was coming back from Asheville, NC to home in northeast, NJ...about 710 miles. I was using an HD Tallboy seat, LRS 18" Elite windshield and Wild1 Pyscho Street Fighter bars. A seat with a backrest would have made it perfect.
I think as long as your ride is setup to your ergo's, you should be good to go. Highly recommend a windshield/fairing to reduce fatigue.
1,538 miles.
See my sig line.
All my rides have been on a Dyna Super Glide.
It is a very capable long distance bike
Any questions regarding set-up etc., just ask.
1,500 miles! Very impressive. You truly are a Road Warrior. Have a backrest on your Dyna? I don't have one yet, but it made a big difference on my Road Glide.
I will never be a beast like jonesee... You sir are an animal. My max is a little over 300 in one day. It is totally a personal decision. My Wide Glide would go from daylight to dusk with no problems.
OP, enjoy your Dyna. IMO they are truly the most versatile platform. Good handling and very capable touring.
ive only done 500 or so in a day, but it took us 10-11 yrs to do it sightseeing going slow.....you set up the bike... comfy seat and windshield and backrest and it goes as far as any other tour bike difference..... fixed bags vs a bag you throw on the back and thats it... you dont need a tour bike to tour, thats ridiculous
