The cam tensionor sometimes needs attention but that is with all the twin cam engines and not Wide Glide specific (I never hatensionor problems mine).

FWIW I traded my 99 Wide Glide in on a new '14 Street Glide last year and put 3500 miles on that and then sold it. I am back on a Wide Glide this year. It's really hard to beat that bike...
Have a friend with 126k on his 2001 wideglide. 95 kit, screamin' eagle eagle heads and gear driven cams. Replaced cam and lifters at 105k. Raced him many times and am amazed it runs out so well. I bought my 2001 fxdxt knowing it had the stronger bottom end (changed to cheaper bearings in 03?)and knowing I Was gonna hot rod it.This is an amazing touring bike as well. The older twin cams can be had at a good price and if you address the tensioner problem they will run FOREVER!

Just as good as any bike out there. Little things may come up here and there, but that's ALL motorcycles including Goldwings. I feel comfortable saying that after owning over 30 bikes in my lifetime. Ive had different makes and models (other than rockets) and it doesn't matter. Its not a car. It's a motorcycle.

I bought my 2007 used 5&1/2 years ago. I've put on over 46,000 miles since then. I did a stage 1, cams, and dyno tune. It's been rock solid reliable. The only thing I've heard about with dynas is the 2006 models.

Good Luck

Yes, the fuel gauge is inaccurate. Rely on trip meter. My speedo is off, but I am usually speeding anyway. Nothing that would strand you.

The 2006s is the only recent year with issues with the stator.

The biggest problem I have with my Dyna is too much time at work and not enough time to ride. Winter is also an issue, sitting in the house while it snows wishing for bike season.

I rode mine 10,000km across Australia and back and I had a real issue getting off and going back to work. The bike went perfectly, was comfortable and brilliant in all conditions (ok loose gravel was marginal but I just lowered the tyre pressures into the twenties and gassed it...!)

Oh, another problem was scraping all the road bugs off my teeth from the sustained idiot-grin I developed!

My 2011 FXDC runs like the wind with no issues. Terrific ride.

Default Nothing at all..

Bought my 2015 Dyna Wide Glide with 4 miles on it. Regular maint, gas, oil, and tires and a **** load of grins!! 21,000 miles later, she fires with the first push of the button and just looks back over her shoulder and says "What are you waiting for?"
"Nothin' like a Wide Glide. Nothing like a Harley."

every single mechanical thing on earth can give you problems...some are just more prone to it then others. If you just want to gas and go, buy a new softail w/ full warranty.

if you don’t mind working on them then buy a used bike, because no matter what bike you buy, if it’s used your going to have to do some work on your own to it, whether it’s just changing the fluids or fixing what the previous owner did to it.

now specifically with dyna’s, they are a unique bike in the way the power train is mounted, these rubber mounts can and do fail, but the biggest problem is that they are so easy to customize that you will find yourself adding or changing things to make it better...it’s deep hole....
