Ok so I have a 2011 fxdwg, it has the Harley clip on windshield, the windshield is 19" from the top of the headlight cutout to the top of the shield. When I put it on it feels like air is coming up my chest and trying to lift my helmet off. Also when I hit about 50 mph the wind shakes my helmet really bad. Is there anything I can do to help this out? I've tried moving the shield up and down the fork tubes but it doesn't really seem to help. Normally I don't care about the shield but girly and I are headed on a road trip to San Diego and thought maybe a shield would be nice.. If I can't fix these issues i just gonna leave it at home and sell it lol..
I had the same problem as you with my HD shield. I bought a windvest it was better, alot less buffering. I came across a set of Memphis shades lowers for a good price. With the lowers and the HD shield all the wind coming up to your chest stopped.
Check this out. I use the PVC tubes and a fork wind deflector. My wifes sportster has the clamp on shield like yours, mentioned half way down the thread, and arching out the top really reduced the buffeting. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...em-solved.html Also in high wind keeping your knees tucked up to the tank helps.
I agree with "dublenut", I had Harley shield, then got the Memphis Shades batwing and still had the OP's problems. Finally put on the MS lowers and they helped more than anything else I had tried.
Thanks guys, it's not so much the wind on m chest that is a bothersome, it's the air at the top of my helmet making my head shake on the freeway that's bothering me.. Think the windshield is just gonna end up for sale.. I don't fee like spending cash on lowers and doing all that just to rock a windshield for a trip..
Had same problem here with my first two windshields, HD Compact and HD Supersport. I ended up getting a LRS shield that has a recurve at the top. Totally eliminated the annoying buffeting off my helmet.
Glade I'm not alone on this. My helmet will lift off my head unless really cinched down tight to the point of choking. Haven't had much issue with buffeting but it definitely grabs the visor and pulls up hard.
Does anyone know if this works on a stock shield ? The biggest issue wanna get rid of is the movement of the top of my helmet.. (Not this exact one but something like it)
