Looks like this is a recurring issue with certain models. Even though my 2015 FXDL is listed as a compatible model on the box, the Diamond Black LED fuel gauge just won't seat properly. It looks like the clips that seem to snap to small ridges within the recess in the tank, just don't line up. It causes the gauge to pop up on the right side. I've tried installing it in a couple degree rotations in both directions (clockwise and c-clockwise) with no luck. Even tried using the original gauge thicker gasket, also no luck.
Searched around and found a similar thread from a while back, but no solutions other then scrapping them for other gauges. I'm hoping maybe someone came up with a solution since then.
It's a shame, because it's a real good look. I also don't like the flush mount gas cap that comes with the flush gauge/cap combo. If I can't get it to work, I may go asymmetric and use the diamond black gas cap with the flush mount gauge.
But I'd clearly rather get this installed... See below. Anyone fix this?
Man....it looks like it is just not enough tension on that to hold it down.
If you push it down will it sit where it should? Just wondering about a dab of silicone or worse case scenario some adhesive?? Just trying to think of something, since I don't know a proper fix. Those are good looking gauges/caps for sure. I wouldn't want to scrap them either!
Yep, I can press it into place, but nothing I do will hold it down.
I think I'm going to hold the original gauge up to it and closely examine the clips to see if they are out of position, and also see if this is deeper then the original. I'm hesitant to use adhesive in case it ever has to come out...
Not just yet. I was at the dealer on Sunday and I mentioned the problem to the parts manager (who I have become somewhat friendly with) He said he'd fix it and went into the shop where my bike was. After a few failed tries, he said he would order me a new one lol. "Looks like something wrong with the molding of the base" he said. I suspect the replacement will be bad too. I think they don't fit certain tanks. At least I won't have a problem returning it after his second attempt.
I'll probably get the flush mount set and just not use the gas cap, in favor of the diamond black cap, which I really like. Who cares if they don't match... I don't.
We'll see though. Maybe I'll get lucky and he will get me one that fits.
Hope you are surprised and the replacement one works. If not, you can return it easily like you said.
They look damn good though so I'm hoping it works !
