See the rotor there, there are two, thin steel spacers in that photo against the rotor, this photo is before I removed them during tear down. I kept them in a stack of all the compensator springs all in order and it's a good thing, cause I'll be damned if I can find mention or photo of them in my SM nor could parts or service at the HD shop find any mention of them anywhere.
I try to stick with the book and although I can't find them in the SM that's where they came from and that's where they went back
Nice work! Those rods are nice lookin. What's the advantage of the zippers tensioner over the stockers? I see you have the inner primary on already, you haven't buttoned that up have you?! Keep the pics coming, good luck with the wrist pins!
I believe those zipper tensioners have dual springs on them for better tension on the chain and I think they have a bit bigger shoe on them. They're pretty nice if I went w/ chain cams.
Those rods look really beefy - no weak point there.
They are stout as hell!
Is that red Loctite at the bottom of the cylinder studs? I did not remove mine, so just interested in what all you did there.
I wasn't 100% sure on that but I did it, they had dried red on them from factory, screw it if I did it wrong, they're in there
Keep the pics coming, best Thread going for a gearhead!

The Zippers have two plungers/springs, I've read some things about them being better so what the hell. Some of this, is like this is the last bike (no, seriously) I'm ever gonna go to town on so I said what the hell here and there
Yeah, clutch basket in but not the clutch yet, probably tomorrow, you guys don't want to be bored or bothered by pics of that stuff do you!

So (not) funny... Still, today I had to head to Las Vegas from Palm Desert for work (280 miles taking the scenic route, nobody but me on the road), normally I drive but the weather is nice and so I decided to take the bike. All I could think of is "what if I screwed up something in my build". Bike handled like a champ every mile, these engines really are fairly easy I think and you know that you've done an absolutely impeccable job so far!
