Oh yeah, head work time
Tank was ok, I was nervous about cutting the crossover line. One of my clamps didn't work so well and as a result I had to sit there holding my fuel can under the cut line. Overall not so bad.
I think my biggest problem is going to be remembering all the connectors to the throttle body!
Another problem was that my air cleaner back plate was broken on both sides. Will call DK Customs on Monday to see if they can send another.
More updates later!
This garage is much smaller than our old one, gotta move the golf cart outside
Clamp on each side of crossover. Hoping to clamp/cut then drain one side at a time. It half worked...
Tank off, need to get the old hose off and drain the other side. I had less than a gallon in there.
Broken back plate in my DK Custom and discreet breather. Must have been excessive vibration or too tight
I'm also kind of toying with the idea of installing the new heads, putting the top end back together (minus push rods), and then doing the cams. Mostly just for cleanliness and not forgetting anything. Any reason not to? No areas of duplication I dont think. My pushrods are quickees so they can be installed with heads on and lifter covers on as well.
Thoughts?
Throttle body out. I should have taken pics of all the plugs. Also removed the horn and top stabilizer
New throttle body on the left. SE 50mm with 4.9 injectors I believe
Covers off. Now at the park with my son for a bit and then back at it!
On the crossover, you will probably take the tank off several times while doing this job and being happy with putting it back together.....plus you may also want to take the tank off many times during your ownership of the bike. So my advice would be to install a quick disconnect coupling to make that much easier.
One word of caution though. I bought a cheap plastic one and it leaked like a bastard. I would have bought a decent metal one, but can't seem to get them here in the UK.
I ended up just removing the metal clamps from the crossover and pulling one end off while sticking 3/8" ID (i think) silicon tube over the free spigot and the other end of the crossover and running those to a fuel container. Works fine and easier than cutting and clamping. Then when I re-fit the crossover, I just tighten it up with heavy duty cable ties pulled really tight with a wrench. When you want to get it off again, just cut the block off the cable tie and wriggle it loose.

Do check the diameters though - I am half drunk and just googling....
You can do an entire top end removal on a Dyna without removing the gas tank or draining fuel, FYI.
