So, after reading through all these pages. Let me just say I have heard the same exact thing said about people that ride sportsters. "They only ride them because of lack of funds". Personally I think this is crap for the most part. I am sure it may be the case for some, but definitely the exception. I rode a 85 sportster for years and loved it, but just got tired of not knowing if I was going to make it home or not. Always had to be working on it. It was 30 years old. In any case a good friend of mine who rides a road king told me about one for sale, super low miles and priced at least 2k under book value. I looked at it and really considered it, but it just was not ME! This did however get me looking and I found my current 09 Fat Bob. I bought it in February and am loving it. I did not even know they existed. I always liked the Street Bob and had ridden a Fat Boy. I am very happy with the combination of the two. I guess point being to each their own, but I think most ride what they like, not because they can't afford something else.

I could not afford to drop $25k on a bike, so I drop $15k I really liked and to mod to my desires, so I gathered parts here and there and put a little of my own mod skills to use. I ride year round and 20 degrees sucks with out some kind of wind protection. I do around 3-5 trips a year where I ride 600-1000 miles a day, so the screen is good for limiting fatigue. Having storage for things when riding to work or out for a few days makes the bags a good mod. Sometimes I strip the bike down and get accused wanting a Softy. Overall, I have a much lighter bike I can tour on and I can strip down in about 30 minutes (I'm not worried about those 30 second strip downs) and have a nice cruiser. It's mine, its paid for, that's all that matters to me.

'Round here, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a dresser or Softail. See quite a number of Sportsters, but very few Dynas.

Sounds like Dynas are regional. I very seldom see one here. Mostly sportsters and touring. Occasional softail and v-rod. Never seen a street in the wild.

Wondered when someone was going to claim bagger envy. That's right all of us Dyna riders are on food stamps dreaming of the day when we might be able to scrimp and save up for a Geezer Glide.

I wonder how many have baggers that sit in the garage like mine unless they have to ride it to haul the OL.

If they made a Sportster my size, I'd have that. Oh - they do - it's a Dyna. Done.

Seriously - I'd love a Dyna size setup with a 1200 Sportster EVO engine.

I bet Harley couldn't keep 'em in stock if they did it.

Chopper Guys made a kit to put an Evo Sportster power train into a FXR frame. A friend of mine had one he built but he was a crappy mechanic & the poor bike always had problems. Mike would try to work on it, but when he finished he always had extra parts. It was odd seeing a drive sprocket on the right side of a FXR & that Sportster motor looked so small in that frame.
