Default FXDLS 110 vs 117 kit reliability

Any difference?

Note: I did not ask which was faster, louder, or badder. I can work that out for myself.

I haven't heard anything other than the 117 being hotter. I'd be curious to know as well.

If you rode them the same, I would say no difference, but.... YOU ain't going to be riding it the same with MORE power, lol.

Saying that, I just souped up my motor even more than the stage 4 117 kit, and while I found myself twisting the throttle all the way with the Harley stage 4 kit, with more power I find I'm mostly doing no more than 1/2 throttle.

Are you saying that with more available power, you’d be running the motor more “gently” therefore more reliablity?

I have no first hand experience, but my dealer effectively talked me out of the S4 kit due to some failures they had.

I installed my se 117 on my lrs about a year ago and have 18k miles on the 117 (22k on the bike) and all I’ve done is replace my lifters to S&S Premium, cause the screamin eagle lifters suck ***** and we’re getting noisy. The 117 is going to run hotter as there is more displacement. I see a huge difference in heat between the 117 and my old 103 Street bob, but not much difference between the stock lrs 110. I’m currently working on a fan kit so I don’t have to worry about overheating when I’m stuck in traffic but that’s the only thing I feel I NEED for this setup. I do suggest a oil cooler as well but I don’t have one yet. So to answer your question I wouldn’t worry about the rdliability issue. Just spend a little extra to keep her runnin cool and you’ll be good to go. And Incase you’re wondering, I beat the ducking living **** out of my bike. Nothing I love more than nailing that throttle on an open highway.

Maybe I'm a bit late to this thread, but I have a State 4 Forty Eight with VH short shots and removing the baffles and installing Thunder Torque Inserts (TTI) does clearly move the power down lower. In my opinion, the TTIs are a must.
