Default Dyna Front Brake Pads

I have a 2008 FXDF. The front brake shoes each have a pair of hooks that clip over a strong retaining wire inside each piston (two per side). Can I change out the shoes without splitting the caliper halves? I removed the caliper from the fork and removed the pad retention bolt and pushed gently on the top of the pad and the shoe did not budge. Thank you ahead of time for your input.

Yes. Make sure there is enough empty volume in the master cylinder and spread the pads so the pistons go back into the caliper. Then you should have enough space to wiggle the pad off of the retaining clip in the piston.

Did the calipers change that much from 2007? I pull two pins and the pads just fall out. No bolts to remove except the two holding the caliper to the lower slider.

Is it aftermarket?

At some point, 2008(?) they did change slightly on the front. You still have the two bolts that mount the caliper to the forks. Then there is a small bolt at the top of the pads, bridge bolt or some such, They also added the clip in the piston to help pull the pads away from the rotor.

Still tractor tech with a couple hiccups thrown in.
