Hey everyone, time for winter upgrades. This year I have putting new cylinders on my 2000 fxdx (88ci). I have ordered the s&s 95" big bore kit. Now this past year I put new cams in, I am running the s&s .509's. My question is, will these cams be ok for the upgrade or am I going to have to get new cams again?

Whats your CR going to be? I think theyll be fine. Might be better off using that money on headwork.

Best to keep researching this one for now. I'd like to punch my 88 out to a 95 too but I was warned to stay with lower comp pistons or else change out my cams,I'm told my 551 S&S cams won't play nice with anything higher comp than 9.9-1 pistons. Apparently detonation becomes a threat due to the 551's intake valve timing which will raise the compression to this threshold. I must say, I really like the 551 torque & power band, I just want more cubes. My attitude is "Who cares if I can't say I have 10.5-1 or 11-1 pistons, what really matters is the actual combustion chamber compression that is determined by the combination of components you've married up in your build", I want all those goodies to play nice together! Any comments to this mindset?
Here's a link to a couple videos that are really good to help you get your mind around this topic.
When I had the 95" kit put in on my 02 Superglide they put in the S/E 203 cams that are equivalent to the S&S 551 cam. Real good power when solo and the power was still there with the increase in torque when two up.Roll on throttle passing worked real well. At the time the HD 96" came out and keeping up wasn't a problem till the new bikes went into 6th gear. Has a nice little lope to the idle.
If you go over to the Engine mechanical topics forum you'll see that most are going to a 98"er with 570 or 585 cams with compression to match the cam ivc plus head work. 110/105 is easily had..
