Stock exhaust question. 01 FXD
very affordable compared to a lot of aftermarket exhaust systems, sounds awesome, makes great power, looks sweet. no regrets
I am not well versed on International exhaust regulations, but.....
I have never seen a domestic Harley with a dual exhaust and two mufflers, where one muffler had a CAT and the other did not. Even with the crossover, it makes no sense to have just one muffler with a CAT...
If CATs were required, both mufflers had them. In 2001, CA bikes had two #65844-95A mufflers w/CATs, while the 49 states (and Canada) bikes had two #65747-90A mufflers w/o CATs.
In 2001, Harley offered two International Dyna muffler part numbers. One had a CAT, the other did not.
I believe the HDI muffler #65388-97A w/o CAT, was for international markets where CATs weren't required. In markets that required CATs, like Japan, I believe the bikes were shipped with two of the HDI mufflers #65868-97A w/CAT.
I believe you are supposed to have two #65868-97A on your exhaust...
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I would be shocked to hear an emissions requirement for a bike to have one cat muffler and one without, on a dual exhaust system..
Oops, just noticed this thread was started over a month ago... I wonder if the OP is riding around with one cat muffler & one non-cat muffler.... ?

Boy, when I'm off, I'm way off....

I saw the month/day, and totally missed the year...
