Default Security system Question

I bought my first Harley about a month ago [8D], it's an 02 FXDL. The shop I purchased it from mentioned that it has the factory security system, and if I purchase the key fob they'll program it for me. I went to the local dealer to purchase said fob, and the parts guy told me there are several different systems that could have been installed, and for a mere $200 the service dept could determine which one it has. My question is this... where is the system located on the bike? I'd rather find it myself than pay the dealer's rates to ID the thing. Since my other bike (Kawasaki KLR650) was stolen from my yard Sunday, this has been moved to the top of the priority list. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

On my 01 FXDX-T, the siren module is located under the seat, about the size of a pack of smokes that's mounted flat across the opening in the frame. You can follow the wire (if you have the module) to the TSSM, located behind the pop-off electronics cover on the left side. Take off the cover and if I remember, you're looking right at the TSSM.

Are you saying that they wanted to charge you $200 just to look at it and tell you which system you had?

If so, I would find a better dealer that isn't looking to overcharge you for something they shouldn't be a charge for at all if you bought the bike there.

You and me both! The real pisser is that my wife bought it for me for last Christmas. I had been looking at one for a couple of weeks, and got home one night and there it was......But on a bright note, it's fully insured and the wife wants to learn to ride, so we;ll put the $$$ towards an 883.

That's correct. Unfortunately, they're the only dealer here in Tucson, and I bought the bike from a different bike shop that specializes in mostly custom stuff. I've heard from other folks that the svc dept is to be avoided, but the parts guys are pretty good all in all. Once I ID the system, they have the fobs in stock, and will help program it for free if I don't wan't to take it back the the dealer I got it from.

After you have located the part number, and have the FOB, go to the Owners Manual, (also known as the "Death or Serious Injury Warnings" and follow the instructions for programming the alarm yourself. Learn how to do it so you can do it in the dark after you have lost your FOB or the FOB battery goes south. You will be glad you commited it to memory. Trust me.
