Default Cheap 5 3/4 inch headlight housings....beware

Purchased what was advertised as a 5 3/4 inch headlight housing off Ebay... less than 100.00....figured this would be a fine alternative to a Headwinds or Adjure....Also, it came with the headlamp....so i figured, what the heck

well, turns out that the mount and hardware were metric, as well as the diameter housing the lamp...i intended on changing out the mount because it was just so cheap...BUT, of course, a standard sized mount width of 3/4 was a hair too wide ...also, I wanted to get rid of the cheap lamp in the housing..BUT, not happening.... standard 5 3/4 lamps would NOT fit inside the housing...again, just a hair too big in diameter

point is, you WILL get what you pay for in headlights... it'll either be cheap in quality and will no doubt be an "off shore" item with incorrect dimensions all around

I'm off to Adjure or Headwinds!

I'd like to say, that is not always the case.

I too like a lot of others out there, hate the Dyna headlight. It's too receesed and too small front to back.

I looked around A LOT and finally found exactly what i was looking for: the 310-332 Drag Specialties chrome 5 3/4 diamter headlight. For 60 bucks and a bit more change for shipping, it went on with ease - once you figure out how to correlate the wiring (different color wires from stock).

Looks great on the bike to boot - like it belongs there.

that's not what i'm saying, flynavy.... the headlight i got would have gone on with ease, as well.....but when i decided to change the mount and the lamp i ran into problems .....i would have had no problem with wiring, as it took the standard H4 bulb...wiring and installation was not the issue....compatibility with standard american sizes WAS, as they related to the mount and lamp

Not just in headlights. Most aftermarket parts are cheap for a reason. One of the first parts I bought even before I got my bike was home was chrome switch housings. $35.00 on ebay. When I got them they were the crapiest looking things I ever saw. Got rid of them and bought the Harley ones. Went to a few bike shows and looked at aftermarket stuff and didn't like any of it. Every part on my bike is Harley except for the Python exhaust. I may have paid alot more for it but the quality is unbeatable.

totally agree, 07fxdwg .....unless the aftermarket manufacturer has a reputation that's been well established like Headwinds, or PM, or Landmark, i stay away from it .......and when in doubt, go right to the source- Harley

The picture in the catalog of the Drag Specialties headlight looks like it might be just what I've been looking for. Would love to see a picture of that headlight on a Dnya though. Anybody have one?
