I would test ride the models you are looking at. If one jumps out at you and the money is not right wait. If you jump into something totally based on deal and not what you really wanted it will end up costing more money in the long run. I could of purchased any model on my last purchase and went with what was good for me and my riding style at this time. I will go with a bagger in a few years only because I will have more time to tour. I am not going to purchasea baggernow justsoI can go grocery shopping with it. I find that a total waste of money and machine.

i assume you put the same post on the softail post.... of course we all think you should buy a dyna - we already bought one.
horsepower to weight ratio is the best. i think the dyna is more comfortable than the softail and the price is better. all around i think the dyna is a good buy. count on an aftermarket seat (maybe two if you want looks for around town and comfort for trips) and IMO you'll be spending wisely.
i looked at used bikes and didn't think they were that great a deal but if you can find what you like go for it
good luck!
Actually I didn't post it in the Softails forum, prolly should, but I like the rubber mount feel.

It could help or it could make things more confusing and a more difficult decision. I'm not trying to put words into your mouth but it seems to me you decided you like the Wideglide but just want to make sure it's a decent 2-up bike for the times you want to ride 2-up. Perhaps the Softail was an alternative that may be better for 2-up?

You can definitely ride 2-up on a wideglide and not feel like you are overloading the bike. From a 2-up perspective, I don't think you're going to get more room or more power/torque for carrying more load on a Softail unless it's a Heritage Classic or something like that. And, even then, it won't be more power, just maybe a little more room for the passenger.

Before I say this, I'll point out that my wife is somewhat of a complainer by nature. She seems to always be on the lookout for the negative side of anything. When I first got her on the back of my bike with the stock 2-up seat and a rigid mounted sissy bar, she said the vibrations in the rear and on the back were just too uncomfortable. To make matters worse, she then went on a ride with her brother on his Heritage Classic. So, she was then able to compare the lack of vibration felt from the 96B motor to the thin seat and the Rubber Mounted vibrations from my Dyna. That's when I upgraded the seat. Now the rear end is okay from the vibrations but she still complains of "bees" on her lower back from the vibrations she still gets from the sissy bar. However, they seem to go away after a few minutes of riding and she's okay from then on out.

You guys are definitely more responsive to a thread than the softail guys. Might say something for Dyna and their owners.

The only complaint I received from my wife on the Wide Glide was the stock seat was too hard/skinny for long rides.

I cured that with a Sundowner. But there are many other seat options for comfy rides. Now she can ride all day, all night, and has never, ever complained about anything since that seat change.

There is plenty of room on this bike for 2-up riding; she is not jammed up into my back. Bike handles just fine 1-up or 2-up and I've done the twisties and highway stuff with no concerns over stability. With the windshield, t-bag, saddlebags, and big seat, we can go anywhere in comfort. Then, I can take it all off again to have a stripped down retro lookin' Harley (what drew me to the Wide Glide in the first place).

Personally, I don't understand some of the comments in this discussion. Just about every Harley made can be customized to fit 2-up touring, and 1-up bar hopping needs. Wide Glide is just one of many models you might be happy with. If the the Wide Glide happens to have the look you want, don't fret about the rest because it's a non-issue. While they're definitely good choices, you certainly do not have to purchase a Road King, or other Touring model to enjoy 2-up riding with your wife.

Itraded my 05 XL1200C for my Dyna. My wife rides with me quite a bit. I had a touring seat on my XL and a QR back rest. I have a stock seat with a QR back rest on my Fatbob. Wife says the seat sucks but likes the back rest. As far as handling, ride and get up a go the Dyna blows away the XL. I am not a big fan of the RK.

Here is a post about a person trading a WG for a RK for 2 up riding. https://www.hdforums.com/m_2907710/tm.htm

The truth is motorcycle ride quality is very subjective. We all have different hights, weights, seats and so on there is no way that one bike will fit all. I ride 500 miles a day on my sportster and I am very comfortable. There is a guy on the sportster page with 100,000 miles on a 2002 sportster.I really think the dynas ride great also. I think some people are more sensitive to the ride then others and as a result we blame the bike. The best thing to do is rent until you find the right match.

I went from an '05 Sporty to an '08 FDXC. Night and day. The Sportie was fun one up and could keep up with a Dyna but the reserve power in the '96" engine is awsome. In addition, the slightly longer length has served to give my wife a little more room. The Sportie was a bit top heavy. The Dyna (which I lowered about an inch) is extremely well balanced. It feels like it could almost stay upright when not moving. The '06 and later has the beefier frame and forks. With regard to the softail, several of my friends who have owned one say that the hidden shocks under the frame are comfortable for short rides but your butt will get pretty sore after a while. The external adjustable shocks on the Dynas make for an easy change when riding two up. Get a Dyna.

We have an 07 FXD and and 07 FXSTC, I prefer the FXD over the Softail Custom.
Both are fun to ride, but If I could only have one, it would be tha Super Glide.

Really, very interesting. Could you expand on exactly why?
