Making the switch to Dyna
We have an 07 FXD and and 07 FXSTC, I prefer the FXD over the Softail Custom.
Both are fun to ride, but If I could only have one, it would be tha Super Glide.
The FXD shocks are adjustable for stiffness, when I ride 2 up I crank my shocks up to about a 4 or 5, otherwise it's set to 1-2.
I have a Sundowner "Touring" seat with the 12" passenger pad, the wife likes it and she has a two baby butt.
Did I say that out loud?A few weeks back, I rode for 250 miles, it took me a day or two to realize that,
during the ride, I never even thought about being uncomfortable.
It never even occurred to me.
BTW, I traded up from a 1200 XLC and am sooooo glad that I did. Not 1 regret, period.
I almost bought the Electra Glide Standard, it was only a couple K more.
What made my final decision was the fact that my wife rides with me very infrequently and I really liked/preferred the "sportiness" of the FXD.
It has the (IMHO) best handling and power to weight ratio of all the bikes.
All that being said, I truly recommend that you test ride before you buy.
Good luck,
Del

I like the 49mm fork tubes, it just feels stronger. (I did a wide glide customization as well)
We dont ride two up, so I cant say how either would be witha secondbody.
My wife really likes the softail, if I could just teach her to keep up.....

The Dyna is a bike for all purpose. It is actually my wife's bike. Set up for touring with windshield, saddlebags, stock floorboards, and touring lights.
Fast, low and comfortable.
For two up- get a Road King or Heritage. My pref. would be the King. Other than that, the Dyna is a nice bike.
Good luck.
I don't miss the Roadking at all! I am really looking forward to having fun on the Dyna!

Here's a suggestion, go buy the dyna you want and let her ride the sporty...
I missed riding for years because my wife HATED the things. She didn't feel safe at all around them. Couldn't tell me why, and I gave it up for 18 years to make her happy. Turns out she was riding tailgunner on her high school boyfriend's bike when he took out a possum and dumped it. I finally got "permission" to have one but only if I never even tried to get her on "that damned thing." Picked it it up Saturday, she drove it on Sunday. She wouldn't give it back. Told me to get my own. Now she has her Nightster, and I have the FXD I always wanted. She now calls riding her "yippee time." She rides almost daily now, but she still won't get on the back of mine because it scares the cr*p out of her, LOL
Moral of the story: some folks just aren't comfortable unless they've got the bars in their hands, and enough training (thank you MSF) to understand how safe and enjoyable it can be.
Thank you2007fxdc for pointing out such an elegant solution!
The Fat Bob... wow. I love it

With all that said, she is perfectly comfortable on the back of my dyna and the bike hardly rides any different when we're 2 up vs. when I'm alone. It doesn't feel like it's a little too much for the bike, the motor, or anything. I barely know she's back there - not cramped at all. I just got her a more comfortable seat and snap the sissy bar on anytime she is riding with me. I can change from solo mode to 2-up mode in about a minute and a half.
