Default Purchase info for a Newbie

First off, this is a great forum for a dirt bike guy like me that is a real no-nothen when it comes to HD's.....you folks have schooled me already. I am set to seal the deal on a Street Bob tomorrow so tell me the things to check and be aware of. I know to make sure that the trany in neutral recal is performed if needed based on build date but what else?

Prior to pick-up I'll have the Stage 1 installed with the SEII pipes, HD Race tunner, 180 tire kit, windshield, axle covers.....few other little things. I think because I'll be riding between 6 and 7 thousand feet of elevation that I won't be too lean? again I don't know much about the Race tunner gizmo

And as I said above I've been a dirt bike rider for 30 yrs and have owned a couple metric street bikes back 10 years ago but this will be my first Harley. As you can imagine I am so jacked up about gettin this bike I cant stand it.

Thank you in advance for giving me any heads up on things to cover during the purchase.

Cheers

Check the bike out from front to back, make sure there are no scratches, dents, dings or other damage. You'll have a harder case to make if you discover them after you leave the dealer, they may tell you that it wasn't there when the bike left, then good luck on getting that fixed for free. Secondly, as basic as it sounds, check the oil level by taking out the dipstick and looking at it. You would not believe how many times the simple things get overlooked at prep time and that's what you paid a significant amount of coin for, the assembly and "dealer prep." Give it a good shakedown ride and if anything feels wrong, loose, etc. take it right back and have them look at it and fix it. Lastly, enjoy the ride and welcome to the world of Harley!

I know how you feel...the couple of days before I picked up my bike it was raining and my bike was sitting there waiting for me. I felt like I was gonna explode. I can just tell you what happened to me. I noticed about half way home on the day I picked up that my handlebars moved around way more than I was used to. Turns out that the riser bushings allow for some flexibility, but mine were especially loose. I went back and made sure they tightened them up. A few months later, I ended up just having them install the polyurethane bushings...I don't like that mushy, moving feeling.
Good luck man..you're gonna love the new scoot!

Hey I too know where you are coming from. I have owned dirt bikes as far back as I can remember. Right now I still sport a 02 RM 250. Looking forward in getting that RMZ 450 sometime.
But the Street Bob is great and it sounds like you are on the right track for things to look for.
