How to figure out when bike was manufactured? Link?
Hey all,
I have an 06' Dyna SB and have been reading a lot on the primary bearing failure lately but also read that it was only with the first 3400 bikes (I think that was the number..) and that it was bikes from before September of 05' manufacture dates. I was just curious to see how I could find out when exactly my bike was manufactured. I'm at 10,100 miles and have no problems as far as what people have been describing for symptons of the failure (loud whining from primary) but I know the maintenance schedule says to change them at 15k miles. At the rate that I drive, I'll be at 15k in about a month or so. Anyway, thanks!

Unless something has changed that I am not aware of all road motor vehicles have a 17 character VIN....and the 10th character designates the year of manufacture.

Ah, it was on the sticker on the tube. Very cool. So my bike was manufactured 04-06. So, really my bike should still be under factory warranty then. Does the warranty on the bike start when it was purchased from the original owner, or from the manufacturer's date?
I bought my bike used in October of 07' with 550 miles on it so unfortunately I wasn't the original owner. But since then, I've put just about 10k miles on it! Woo hoo!

Nevermind. I just found a letter I got from Harley dated February '06 that says "the precautionary maintenance requirements they recomended during the initial care program are no longer required." The first on the list; "inner primary bearing replacement at 15,000 mile intervals is no longer necessary." There we go.
