And that was my first mod, felt it was almost mandatory. The Kury fowards come complete, except for pegs. I took my time and many breaks, was about 3 hours total.
Its not hard at all if you have the following. Service manual, basic sockets, torx sockets, hex wrenches, impact wrench, torque wrench, and basic mechanical skills. You will also need to go to Carquest or some other parts store that carries freeze plugs and thread lock because the kit does not include these parts. I carried my outer primary cover in and they matched up one that fit so I bought two of them, "one for the inner primary and one for the outer primary to seal the holes where the mid controls come through the cover". You will also need a bottle of primary oil to re-fill after you complete the job.
The dealer told me that it was not necessary to remove the inner primary cover to do the job if you have a lift and elect to use a hacksaw to saw off the control rod from behind the inner primary but I followed the directions and did not use the saw. I am sure someone else can chime in here if they have any advice that would help.

My kit came with a cap to cover the end of the rod. I did not remove the primary cover.
you will need a big socket, i want to say 1 in for the clutch basket... it is pretty easy... did mine in about hour and 1/2... with all of us on here that have done it you should be cool!

You will get varying opinions as to who makes the best forwards, Harley or Kuryakyn. The Kuryakyns are probably considered easier to install. The Harleys are not hard if you do as posted earlier and cut the shifter shaft which runs through the primaries with a hacksaw. Search for threads written by WS6 Formula. He has posted some very helpful info. Here is a pic I did for someone else about where to cut the shifter shaft.
Good luck!
