Red face Stage I for my 08 Dyna FXDL

Okay, I know there are many threads on this subject but...I have some questions I though you could help with:

1. Does a Stage I upgrade void you warrenty if I do it myself?
2. The Stealer told me it doesn't if the dealer does the upgrade which costs about $800!
3. I have the "old style" Screaming Eagle II slip-ons but have not upgraded the breather because of the cost of a fuel pac, etc.
4. Is there another way?

I appreciate any advise.

Mark

1. shoulnd't as long as you use all HD/SE parts but its a bit of a crap shoot with the moco...
2. that's the standard line but who knows? sometimes yes, sometimes no...see answer to #1
3. you don't need the fuel pack or any other engine management if all you are doing is stage 1; change the pipes, air cleaner and either leave it alone as many do or have the stage 1 ECM download done your choice
4. see answer to #3

1.stage 1 will not be covered under warranty read the owners manual you cannot MAKE any chages. case in point. i had after market exhaust and a/c k&n filter got my bike in ohio had a problem in va. dealers there would not cover my bike. the 2 dealers worked out something to get me home where it was fixed.
2. the stealer will cover you but... not tell harley u have the upgrades
3. look into xieds or ieds (under search on forum) instead of piggy back fuel controllers ie PCIII FUEL PAC ETC.
4. there is always other ways but...what are you asking here?

What's a stage 1...

...if you do the stage 1 street legal flash, with SE street-legal HD parts and have them install it, it should not void your warranty. Despite what the warranty may or may not say, the law says they must cover everything unless they can prove the modifications caused the problem, HD also includes any HD parts you buy and have them install within 90days as if they came with the bike. HD would have a hell of a time proving their stage 1 flash that they installed caused the problems in court... in fact they wouldn't even try.

You will be fine.

herr monk not talking about flash dl a friend also said the new se mufflers do not void warranty but se II will according to my dealer or after market. warranty laws vary diff from state 2 state also so best advice to plambeachcpl get it in writing
stage 1 a/c exhaust and a dl sometimes inclues coil and rev limit thru the dl

se II are considered race parts

Yeah, they don't make SEII anymore, and those are "offroad"... the most basic warranty laws are federal.

The fact is there are maybe... what, five people on this board who have owned their bike for over a month that still have them stock... everyone does it, if HD wasn't covering it, they'd have an angry mod on their hands.

Wrench your own **** and **** on the warranty!! However from what I understand most of the aftermarket guys warranty there parts so if it causes a problem look to them. I say do it right and it's not gonna cause a problem so the warranty won't matter.

I am on Stage 11 with all HD parts and labor and have not had any problems with warranty work (have not needed any). I have put 7000 miles on the stage 11 and runs stronger than it did stock. Like Herr Monk said it hard to find stock bikes anywhere and if you look at the new bikes at the dealer at least 75% of them have stage 1 done to them from the get go.
