well guys i'am going to try to tackle this project in the next week or so. I will let ya'll know how it goes. i'am not really looking forward to doing this. But it must be done i can't stand the mid controls. Oh ya a service manual might help ya guys if you try this your self.
Same here. I have the forward kit sitting in my living room right now. I bought the service manual and just need to build up the nerve to crack the primary open and see if anything falls out. UGH!!
I need to get a new battery for my digital camera and then I will take some pics while working on the forwards. Maybe it will help someone in the future.
Talk to your dealer,06 Dyna recall on the tranny requires alot of the work to be done.
Ask if they would cut you some deal My dealer did 1 hour. Not worth the trouble for that coin.
Hi all,
New here and this is my first post. I found this site when searching for info on '06 forward controls.
I have an '06 lowrider cobalt/silver.
I purchased the service manual and dug into the job. I made my own primary drive locking tool with a piece of 1/4" X 2" 7 1/2" long stainless from work.
The install worked great until I went to put the new tower gasket on that came with the kit and the adhesive stayed on the backing not the gasket.
I tried some high temp adhesive and thought it had worked until I test drove the bike. It leaked from both shifter shaft holes.
I went back to work the next day and got a piece of high temp plastic slightly bigger than half inch thick about 4" long. With this in the inner primary I was able to hold the tower gasket in place and put the bike back together leak free.
The ride is so much better now.
P.S. This took me 4.5 hours total including the 20 minutes to put the tower gasket back in.
Bobcowan is quite right, it is not a simple job. Had mine done at the shop. Inner and outer primary covers, starter motor, exhausts, new gaskets etc, pay the bucks and let the pro's do it. You have a machine worth that kind of $'s, $600 is nothing.
Cheers
