Default First post: From Sportster to Super Glide

Howdy. For the past two years the only Harley forum I have consistently participated on is the XL Forum. After going for 25 years without a bike, I bought a Sportster in the fall of 06. After 2 years and 8000 miles, I'm starting to feel like I've outgrown it.

The dealers are going to be offering full MSRP for 07 and up Sportsters traded in on any BT models, so I'm going down to the dealer where I bought my Sporty tomorrow and see what they've got. I know this will probably be the only time I could ever recoup the full price I paid for my Sporty on a trade, so unless the prices are just completely unreasonable I can't really see a reason not to trade.

Any advice, warnings, wit, and wisdom regarding the Dyna models and the TC96 engine, as well as prices, would be greatly appreciated.

If I do get the Super Glide, you will no doubt be seeing a lot more of me on here.

Here's a pic of my Sporty taken last week:

Congrats on your decision. If you like chrome go for the FXDC, (Superglide Custom), as you get a ton of chrome for the money, a tank mounted speedo, a fat tank, some nice paint options, spoked wheels etc... I did and couldn't be happier.

Cheers,

Tom

Congratulations Gary, Coming out of an '06 Sporty for retail on a trade is going to be near impossible to pass up. Hope you get the Dyna. Seriously consider a few bucks more for the the SG Custom. The SG is the best value of the entire HD line-up for sure. It comes with the larger tank, chrome engine kit, tank mounted spedo and ignition(very nice) and a few other goodies. You will likely want all of this stuff in the near future if you opt for the base SG.

Do the Stage 1 at minimum, makes a nice difference in power and runs cooler. Do it yourself. Dealers love to murder people on the Stage 1 price wise. Call Fuel Moto and have Jamie send you a PC-V(new model), A/C, and set of Rush Slipons. This is a great running/sounding package and can all be used if you opt for cams or a larger displacement build later. I did the Fuel Moto Stage 1 and then a Woods 6 on my '07, '96 and it ran super. Jamie will include the tune but I found that the tunes on the Dynojet site ran better before I built the 103". These are just my opinions and everyones needs and tastes are different.

I spent a good bit of time on the XL Forum and still go there as I kept my 05 Sporty. This site is fantastic, best bike forum on the net. There are many, very knowledgeable people here who are willing to help. The search has an absolute wealth of info on just about any subject you can imagine. Best of luck to ya. Scott.

I pretty much got the same deal in January 2006 on my FXDLI. Couldn't pass it up and it was a great decision. Go for it!

Come on over to the Dyna; you will love it!!! These bikes handle great and this section of the forum has some great folks. They are always there to give you advice on what you might be having trouble with or modding on your bike.

My bike is an 07. This trade-in deal is only good on 07 and up Sportsters.

I'm not into gobs of chrome, but I will take a look at the Custom. I'm also going to look at the Street Bob.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to want forward controls. On my Sportster, that was the single best thing I did to improve riding comfort (besides the Mustang seat). But I know the mid controls are a little more forward on the Dyna than they are on a Sportster, so I'll just have to see how they feel. With boots on, I'm about 6'2" so riding with mids on the Sportster was murder on my knees.

Here's a couple other things I want installed before I take delivery: Tallboy seat. Quick detach windshield. If I do get the forward controls, I'm going to put them on myself. I think it's absolutely ridiculous for Harley to expect you to break open the primary on a brand new engine just to put forwards on. I'm going to put 'em on and leave the shaft in place and use the appropriate Kuryaykan hardware to secure/conceal it.
