I wear Ecco Track Terrain boots. They're about five years old and Ecco has stopped making them, but if they continue to wear at the present rate they'll outlive me.
I've tried Red Wings, Survivors, and a standard HD boot that resembles a GI boot. They were okay but not great by any standard.
My last boots I got from the HD dealer, $60 on sale, and they have to be the best. Cheaper than the Walmart ones. They are 9" boots with zippers, lug soles, Good Year welts, etc. I have to admit they are great to wear. Also, I buy the Gel Insoles and fit them to my boots. Makes a difference.
I also had Wal-Mart boots I thought comfortable. Went to buy a new pair and they no longer carried them. Went to have the old ones resoled at the shoe repair place and was told they could not be resoled because they have "hollow" heals and the bottoms are glued on instead of being sewed on (i.e. good year welts) and they had no arch support.
Most HD dealers are having Valentine's Day sales on clothing and such next week. You might be able to find a pair on sale and save big bucks. Pretty amazing when you find the best deal on a pair of boots at the HD dealer.
I have looked at the sole footbeds and thought about getting them.. Do they really help that much?
They are very comfortable and a big help. Warm them up for a few minutes and stand in them for 20 and they will form to the inside of the boot and your foot. Fits like a glove after that!
