They should make a sticky with one of these clunk threads. With as many new people come on here after buying a new Dyna this would be good info to have at the top.
You can take care of this even with out a jack/lift. There are guys on here that either use a 2X8 or a 2X10 with a bar in it. Slide it under the frame and use the bar to stand the 2X on edge and depending where you put it one end or the other will be offf the ground.
just got back from the dealer, I talked to the service manager about my "clunk" he said that adjusting the bearings in the neck is part of the 1000 mile service (I did my own) so at first they didn't want to warranty it, thanks to jmpancoast, I showed him the bulletin and now they are gona fix it Monday when the part comes in
The forum had a bunch to say about that many months ago. (BTW.. thanks to all!) There was a "secret" service bulletin out there! At least the dealers didn't know about it?! I was so pissed that I ordered the washer and did the job myself. The washer cost me $1.86. I wasn't going to give them the labor from Harley to do the job. Now I am actually able to adjust the "fall away"!
My softail also had the same clunk, see the attached link for a good explanation of why the clunk is occurring. I used this procedure w/ the addition of the new hardened washer the HD sells to correct the problem. http://www.kenandjudy.us/Harley%20Pi...lunk/index.htm
