My thought is that if you buy the kit, and put it on, decide you don't like hte apes, you can easily go back to the stockers since no wiring cutting took place. But, then again, you have already been in the wire harness when you moved the indicator lights. But, if it was mine, I'd get the kit. Less mess and time involved. Counts for something.

Just finished doing my 08 FXDC wednesday, love the way it looks [no pics yet], feels right. Took me two full days [rookie]! 14 wires X 2 solder joints each if you want your connections inside the bars. Not all that hard but time consuming, the serv. manual really helps. Cost me about $300 total with some cheap 1" bars and grips from J & P (not pre drilled), SS cables and brake line from Dennis Kirk. If you are mechanically inclined and have lots of time go for it. Shop around, prices vary.

I have already tapped into the harness once before to move the idiot lights and install drag bars, and you are right it isnt that tough. I had no idea that anyone made an extension kit so I am gonna look into that. It I go with 16 in apes does anyone have any idea how long the cables will need to be?

Clutch Cable 6 Speed 74"
Throttle Cable 39.5"
Idle Cable 39.5"
Brake Line 54"

This is what came with my 16" Wild1 Chubby's. Fit great on my '08 FXDC
