Was looking for a sportster over the winter. Saw my 02 superglide and had to have it. $7000 and I couldn't be happier. painting the old girl now after having to lay her down. can't wait to get back on it once my foot heels.
Started riding about a year and a half ago....bought a used Yamaha V-Star 1100, which is a really easy bike to learn on. After taking the MSF course and getting my MC license, a friend of mine (who had up to 5 bikes at once at one point and still has an '08 WG and an '06 SG) asked me to ride with him and his friends. Of course, they were all on Harleys, and I was soon feeling the pressure. I figured that I had a decent bike and didn't need another one, especially given the cost of new Harleys.
Well, just for sh*ts and giggles I started looking at used Harleys on E-Bay. I didn't really see myself on a bagger. I found the '03 FXDWG on E-Bay....2000+ miles, apparently was a repo from Vegas (seller was a small-time dealer in the San Diego area who buys used bikes). Called him up, found out what his reserve was, offered it to him ($11K and change). Picked it up the next week, have been happy as hell with it since, ride it whenever I can (about 4000 miles in a bit less than a year, riding more and more every month). I've added a fair number of chrome pieces to it, added the HD tach and the stage-1 upgrades.
P.S. The V-Star is for sale, great bike to start out on. It's a bit low for me (5'8"), so would be good for a shorter person. 2003, 4700 miles, BUB pipes and carb re-jet. $5K.

I purchased mine from a woman I tattoo's husband. He has several bikes and ran into some age and medical issues that caused him to thin out his collection. Had 2700 miles on it and I paid $8500. After riding it I couldn't say no to the bike or the price....It wasn't what I thought I wanted until being on it but it definitely was what I "needed"
Had a RockerC on order when the catalog came out for the '08s. The bike was delayed repeatedly due to "manufacturing issues" according to the salesman. Thankfully so, eh? I kept hounding the guy until eventually his boss wrote to say, "offer him anything else but the Rockers." I had been wearing out the catalog sitting at his desk and kept coming back to the Dyna's. On a lark I threw the catalog in front of him with the CVO page open. A $1000 down payment and 5 months later I had my Dyna and have been completely happy with it. Screw those softtails. The Dyna rocks!
Having read through all these "How I got my Dyna" posts I am astounded at how many times a wife is mentioned.
She fits into my story as well. I told her about the guy wanting to sell it to me and fully expected the "but you already have a bike" line...when she saw what it was, heard the mileage and the price tag she said go for it.
I went to the local dealer with the wife for a look, I knew I was looking for a Dyner Super Glide Custom, but needed it to be comfortable enough for my wife when two up. The dealer sat me on a bike with a load of extra's and the wife loved it, all except the stock seat. It turned out the bike had been ordered with Ł2000 ($4000) worth of extras and on the day of collection the guy walk's in and tell's the dealer he can't aford it. Dealer is not happy, as they now have a brand new bike, delivery miles only, ready to go, with no owner. The guy loses the money for the extras and takes out a basic Sportster. Me I get a new Dyna with Ł2000 ($4000) of extras, which I swap for the extras I want, the bike for Ł7000 ($14,000), when it should be Ł9800, ($19,600) and they give me Ł2000 ($4000) for my old bike. The dealer also gives me 35% off all clothing in the store, and to cap it all my wife pays cash for everything, no loan, Result......( Sundowner seat for the good lady wife and everyone is happy)
Another wife story. I've wanted a bike since I was 14, I'm 26 now. I got married last May. I made a deal with my new wife that I could get a bike if I quit smoking. Harley was the Only option. Found it on craigslist for such a steal I won't post the price and today is my 36th day without a smoke.

I'm sure the money you;re saving on buying tobacco is going towards your ride. Sounds like a good deal to me. Congrats on being smoke-free. I should join you on that quest. Been smoking a pack a day since I was 14. I'll be 39 in 4 weeks.
I was at the Harley dealership with the Ol lady looking at the tee shirts and mentioned to her, i sure would like to have that Street Bob. she said give me another baby and you can get it. DEAL! That was a win/win deal for me.
