I had been without a bike for 18 months and was in dire need. Checked out the Harley website and was drawn to the nightster, went into the dealership to check it out and the sales guy steered me towards the Dyna instead. I din't mind one bit and bought the FXDC. The only surprise for me was that I was dead set against the red hot sunglo until I saw it in person, that was it for me!
LOL, another baby for a bike. I got my six child that way but it did not involve a bike. I had a 05 Sporty which I loved but at 250lbs plus a passenger not enough umph... The only bike the Military sales had here was still in the crate so site unseen I bought an 08 Blue Denim Streetbob. Because of work and family schedules it took me a while to make it mine but I'm liking her now. Almost bought a new EGC 08 for 16,200 but like my baby two much and can't hardly ride one bike so don't need two.
I have been riding for the last 15 years. 2 years ago I sold my crotch rocket and decided I would wait until the children were older to get back into riding. Got the itch this summer and started looking around again but once again talked myself out of it. The wifey had been telling me for the last 2 months to buy a bike that I loved and not settle for one that will do. 2 Weeks ago I found out that my father is dying of lung and skin cancer and is planning one last road trip for the year before starting his chemo treatments. I came home and told my wife the news and immediately went out and bought my 09 FXDC in two-tone vivid and pearl black. I pick it up tomorrow and head out for the road trip next week. Lesson learned. Don't let life pass you by.
When gas hit $5 last year I told the wife I needed a new bike, and was heading down to the Harley shop. Walked around the store and stopped looking when I saw the Fatbob. I knew nothing about Harleys, but the FB just fit me like a glove! After a lifetime of ricers I knew it was time for a change.
All they had in stock was vivid black, and I knew I wanted it in black denim, so I ordered one from the factory and waited the longest two months of my life.
In the mean time I loaned myself the money from my 401K (that wasn't doing crap anyway) so I could pay cash for the bike, and pay myself interest over the next 3 years while paying it back. Then, I put it on my Visa card and paid it off the next day so I could get the extra 'rewards points'.

Your creative financing and investment strategy is a win-win in my book. My wife and I use this same method since her 401B is in the hole! Sweet ride, Ratbob!
I learned on a 700cc Honda Shadow and I was getting bored with it and found out a guy at work was selling a Harley cop bike he bought a garage sale. Turns out he didn't know how to ride but wanted the bike so he got it. I had a learner bike so we traded and I threw in $6,200 and got my first Harley. Now he knows how to ride and is kicking himself for getting rid of the bike lol.
i was riding a 2006 sportster, and my wife wouldn't ride with me very often (can't imagine why...) So, after bugging my dad for about a year and a half, i convinced him to buy a harley too - he hasnt ridden in 25 years. dad, mom, the wife and i went to the dealer to shop for his bike. we looked around for a while, and my wife pulled me across the showroom floor and said "i want this one." Dad and i ended up leaving with two new Dyna's instead of one.
I had been itching for a new bike for a while, and decided that I was going to treat myself to one for my 50th b-day (no mid-life crisis here, been riding since I was 16). Knew I wanted a Dyna as I've just never cared for the Softail. Was figuring on a base FXD and I would mod it the way I wanted it. Looked at a few used bikes, and found this '04 FXDWG on craigslist. My buddy and I went down to see it on 12/23, and on the ride home, he just looked at me and said "So, when are we picking up your bike?" Other than the color (I'm really more a black or dark blue fan), it had everything I wanted in a bike. Called the guy after X-mas and closed the deal. Went and picked it up on New Year's Day. Hit 4k miles for the year this past weekend. Absolutely LOVE the bike. Oh, and the color has started to grow on me.
I was just wondering how you stumbled upon your Dyna. I got mine by shear luck. I was just joking around with a guy at work by telling him I would trade a 98 volvo with 100K miles on it for his 03 FXDX with barely over 1K. He said ok, so I jumped on it. I purchased the car for 4K and the blue book was about 5K. The trade was done (gave 1K and the car) and that is how I got my Dyna. At first it was going to be a quick buy and sell immediately, but after the first ride, that is all I want to do now!
Happy riding and ride safe.

Wife bought me mine for my birthday. Walked into dealer and she asked which bike I liked the most. I pointed to a brand new '04 Wide Glide and she told the sales person, "we'll take it, happy birthday, Hon". SCORE..............
