Last change, I just loosened the filter a bit, and then slipped a ziplock bag over it, then unscrewed it by hand, and the filter stayed in the bag with no mess. It worked out pretty good for me.

I use the box the filter came in. Fold it flat and feed it up under the filter. The oil just runs down the box and into the pan.

Actually the idea for changing oil when it is still warm, is that you drain the oil while the particulate matter is still in suspension. That's why the service manual says to ride the bike and bring the engine temp up to operating temp.

Which means you do have to be careful of the hot oil

+1 for the 2 liter bottle method.

Also if you want to bring the bike up to temp and not burn yourself (too bad), you can always start loosening the filter and the crank plug (enough to un-seat them) when the bike is cold. Then snug them back and ride around the block. Then when you come home to slide the lasagna pan underneath, it's a simple spin of both wrenches to get the oil out.

Default Application of the 2 liter idea

I like the idea of putting a hole in the filter and doing a little clean up but the 2 liter bottle is interesting.

I picture putting an extension on my ratchet through the neck of the bottle then putting the filter wrench on end and taking the filter off.

Will the cut-out part of bottle fit below the filter?

+1 I've tried the plastic bottle thing and the heat warps it, so it's a one use deal. Always come back to the cardboard "ramp". Cheapest and best method for me so far.

Just remember that by changing your oil instead of taking it to the stealer you hope to accomplish three things, save money, learn about your scoot, and ensure proper techniques are done by doing your own work. If you are going to change it cold cross off two of them cause all you did was save money. With that being said, AFTER warming engine, don't use saran wrap or a bread bag...Melted plastic is bad! Plenty of good techniques listed on this thread, just pick one and take your time.
