Default Which size Windvest ?

Went for a 160 mile ride yesterday to the HD museum in Milwaukee and back. Like others here... the wind at highway speeds was horrible. Read most of the threads about QD windshields and think the windvest looks nicer. Wondering which size I should get. Can others who've purchased them let me know which size they went with. I'm 5'11" 185 lbs.

Thanks,

Christian

60 to 70 mph I can take, more than that i can sustain for only short blasts,I have my compact HD QD windshield and it comes about mustache height I'm 5'10 and about your weight.I love it and can do just about any speed comfortably, with a half helmet (LAW). as long as it's not in your line of sight you should be ok,and it's easier to have some trimmed off rathan too short and you need a new one!

Default Bigger is Better

I'm 6ft, and went with the 16" Windvest. I can still easily see over the top, which is what you want. I'd suggest the 16" rather than the 14".

Something else to keep in mind. Cee Bailey makes a very short (9"?) windshield that uses the Windvest hardware, and it's very cheap. It's a good way to pick up an extra, short windshield for summer if that's all you want. You can see it here:

I'm 5'10" and have the 16". However, I also have the Cee Bailey 9", and I don't foresee putting the 16" back on. The 9" blocks the wind to your chest while allowing airflow to your helmet. No buffetting at all. It's perfect for the summer (which is 10m out of 12 months of the year lately). I had the Harley QD and the buffeting at highway speed was unbearable. Adjusted the angle, added the fork bag and nothing seemed to get rid of it. The windvest is 10X better (as it should be for what it costs!)

Mine is 14". Just to be clear about something... you won't be sitting in "quiet air" with a Windvest. I'm always amazed at these guys on baggers who can smoke while riding, wearing a baseball cap bill forward. There's plenty of wind behind a Windvest. The Windvest keeps the big blast of air off your chest and makes riding a heck of a lot easier. You'll still feel like you're on a bike though.

I'm 5' 11" and 185 too. I have the 14 x 14 on my WG with drag bars. Like it was said earlier it won't be completely still air behind it but much much better. For me there is less buffeting than with the HD QD windshield and is smaller and looks better. All the pressure to my chest and shoulders is gone and I can cruise at 75-80 with no issues now where 65 was "painfull" before. Also, as said there is an even smaller one available Windvest use to have a 7" one I think. Hope this helps.

I really like the clean look of Memphis Shades. They don't look too bad on the bike. I have the Rio Grande. It looks alot different when its on a normal bike....Not sure why they show it on a springer. The one I have looks similar to the del rio but slightly larger. It provides quite a bit of coverage for me being 6'2"
