The old Wide Glide was one of my favorite bikes Im too short for forwards tho. Im not really crazy about the new Wide Glide. I thought the bobtail fender was a defining characteristic of the Wide Glide. Im not sure I can deal with the bobbed fender on the new Wide Glide. Thats probably my biggest beef with it.
Funny that they even use the Street Bob tail light in Europe. Even though its a different fender it sure does look like they ripped that off the Street Bob anyway without actually using the exact same tail light. That tail light on there really does make it live up to this parts bin bike name that its getting.
It is the same taillight. The only reason they did that is because of the rules overseas requiring a central mounted brake/tail that's seperate from the amber turn sigs
A true Wide Glide is whatever Harley says it is and however they decide to make it.
I didn't like what Harley did to the 09 Street Bobs making their engine grey but it was still a Street Bob.
and obviously by the 2010 "new blacked out" engine...even THEY realized they made a mistake by giving it the grey case for 09. Have you looked at the Harley website and seen that they actually call the blacked out motor this year new!!?? so it doesn't have the polished edge cooling fins.....it's not a NEW concept....just makes me laugh. And that's why I have to laugh at the new wideglide....it may look sweet...I haven't seen one in person yet....but changing up existing parts from different models and sticking them together isn't what I would think a company as big and loved as Harley ....would call innovative.....survival maybe....innovative...NOT

It looks cool, I am not so OK with the name Wide Glide as that really had some history and presense with Harley, this looks more like a cross between a Street Bob and Fat Bob
Nice looking bike, but not a Wide Glide
I don't know about you, but I didn't buy my harley because it was innovative. I bought it because that's what I wanted. If I wanted innovation I could have bought a dandy metric. I'm proud to be a part of the heritage a harley comes with. Since I started riding (1992), I always wanted a harley. Never could afford one although I did pass up some crazy good deals ( for one...a '69 sporty chopper...a real one for FREE if I got it started. Thought the guy was bs'in me. He wasn't. Found that out afterwards).
I didn't buy it because it was the fastest or the most comfortable. Doesn't it count for something that original flatheads, knuckleheads, panheads, shovelheads are still on the road??? How many 50yr old metrics are on the road these days? Only a small percentage of classic brit iron is still on the road because they have a diehard following as well.
HD may not be innovative but they sure build something that will last the test of time, at least in my eyes.
The saying "if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand" comes to mind.
Fastjoe...excellent pics. Thanks for taking the time.
I've always wondered something. Why do softails get forward controls with the rear master cylinder accessible at the brake pedal, whereas the dynas get forward controls where the rear master cylinder is completely obscured by the exhaust and mounted underneath the swingarm. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense as far as servicing goes. Always something I've wanted to mod and use as much of whats already there as possible.
Stopped by the local stealer (Williams HD, Lebanon, NJ) w/ my buddy today. We had just got done dropping our wheels off at the local indy shop to have new tires mounted up. Right when we walked in the door, there was a new WG in black, sitting there. It had V&H Big Radius pipes on it, and a SE air cleaner. Looked nice, but my buddy said, "That's not a Wide Glide." Ended up talking to another guy who was looking at it who and an '04 like mine. He said he liked the bike, but that it wasn't a WG.

Yeah, just like that Korean abortion was a real LeMans, and that re-badged Corrola was a real Nova. I don't care what the mfg calls it, when you have a history and a lineage established w/ a specific product name, you kind of need to maintain some level of continuity.
