I want to mount a Wide Glide tank on a Super Glide. this because I don't like that speedo meter in front of the bike. I want my console in the tank. I have a 2003 Super Glide and I can buy a 2005 Wide Glide gastank with speedo meter. Will this fit?
Or do I have other options to get rid of that "ugly" speedo meter in front. Eg a reversed speedo meter?

I think it would... based on my understanding that the Super Glide Custom uses the same tank & console as the Wide Glide and the Fat Bob.
That is on the newer models... not completly sure about 2003-2005.

I have an 01 FXD (same frame as yours) and I did it. But I think you can only "bolt-on" with no mods until 03. 04-05 the tanks are stretched a bit. It can be done but there is some drilling involved. I also built a little sub harness from the stock FXD harness so everything plugs and plays without butchering the stock harness.
Also took it one step further and bolted on a new 07 front end from a fxdb - giving me the 49mm forks. we had a month of rain here in NY so I had some fun with the wrenches and the soldering iron.
Here's a couple of pics. Let me know if you need any more info.
I always liked the Super Glide tank console where the Speedometer is up like 2-3 inches and staring right at you and the gas filler is right underneath in the middle of the tank , i love my street bob but i hate how the console is flat , Does anybody have a photo of what I'm talking about ? It is early 90's i know that. I would what to put that on my bike , i think the tank size is like a 1/2 gallon less..

I was wrong it's the fuel gage looking at you and the speedo and tach are mounted on the handlebars , i just seen some photo's on ebay but i'm sure there is a console where the speedo is where the fuel gage would be ?
@GeorgeJ:
Very nice job. Dit you fit in the original speedometer (from yr fxd) in the console? Did you also connected the contact button?
Do you also have a pic from your bike in the front?
greetzz,
De
Thanks!
I used a speedometer from a wideglide. There is a way to use the stock (smaller) speedometer - JP Cycles sells an adapter ring which you place around you existing speedometer to make it fit into the large console. But I wanted the larger look and found one on ebay.
If the contact button means the ignition switch no I haven't moved that yet (this winter's project). Should be a simple move of some wires.
Great looking FXD! Thought about throwing a WG tank on the 00 I brought back from the dead but decided to try and make a decent ride while spending as little as possible. One good thing about swapping to a WG tank is that you can find them everywhere. Trying to find a replacement FXD/FXDT tank without shelling out too much $$$ at the dealer is a real pain at least for the 2000.
options... a lowrider tank from your year bike will allow you to use the stock speedo and save money. Also you keep the same shape tank. You could get a sportster riser setup like on the sportster custom where the speedo is mounted to the inside of the bars. You can also get some t-bars and an adapter to allow the install of your speedo on the inside of the bars. The 04 and later dyna tanks are stretched due to the addition of fuel injection. Get a tank from 01 to 03.
Are you looking for a prepainted Wide glide tank? Have you ever considered a stretched tank that'sll fit your bike (long as your changing things)?...would change the look into a more custom look and most are set up for the tach & speedo. They have some nice ones in the J&P catalog.
