Default Typical Brake Pad Life

You guys that have replaced your factory brakes due to wear and not just for performance reasons...

How many miles did you get on the stock pads?

Just curious.

This all rests on how you use them. Some use the front to stop, some use both front and rear.I changed mine at 15K on the front and 22K on the rear.

I had 40% left on the rear when I put on new tires at 13,000, so I replaced them. I don't skimp on stopping power.

I get lousy pad life(rear), I'm lucky to get 8 grand outa the back, front does well, I am still on my factory front pads, I guestimate about 5 more on the front, and I do use the front. Front has more than 46.000 on them.

I changed my rear pads last year, but can't remember the mileage I had at the time, around the middle of july. I musta had about 5k on them, but I had a really bad habit of braking with the foot only for some reason. Now i'm due for my second set on the back at 20k,so there's some improvement. The front (dual discs) aren't even close to wearing out yet .

I do a lot of rear brake only stops. My rear pads are about due with 9K miles on them. I think brake wear will be mostly user dependent. My fronts are not used much to come to a slow stop, so they are not worn much. They are used in quick stop and to scrub off speed to set up in corners.

Front brake pads last about 20,000 and about 40,000 on rear. that is an average on several bikes. I use my front all the time.

I ask because I have 14K and both brakes are still around 75% there. Wondering if I should replace them at the 15K service.

don't replace till they need to be replaced. Also the gold lyndalls are great for a touch extra stopping power and virtually dust free operation(the dust free aspect is great over the stock pads!).
