Thanks y'all. So, that brings up the next question - replace the battery with another H-D one, an Odyssey, an Interstate, Sears????

I have an 05 (bought new in Nov. 04) with 18,000 miles and it is just now starting to give out. It has never been on a tender. I am planning on getting a new one in the next couple of weeks and with the results I got out of the original MOCO battery, I am going back with it.

I've got a 2007 FXDLI with 5300 miles. Live in Upper Michigan where winters come early and spring comes late. Battery has always been on a tender plus is stored in a heated garage during the winter months. We're changing it this spring...... even though she starts right up and have not had any problems to date. We're going on the Lake Superior Circle ride this summer.....and dont want to run into problems in the middle of no-where. We're sticking with the MOCO brand as well. Hubby still has the original battery in his O6 FLSTCI....and will be swapping it out as well. Better safe than sorry.
I think a battery's life depends on a multitude of conditions it's subjected to.

The parts book shows a battery p/n 65989-97A, but H-D's website shows 65989-97C. Any clue what the difference between a 97A and a 97C is?

Hey - nice looking bike! I hear ya - one has to enjoy the riding season while you can.

I agree a battery's life is subject to a bunch of conidtions, part of my question came from the fact that when you buy a car battery they come in different months, ie, 60mo battery, 48 mo battery.

East Penn Deka makes all the HD batteries. Go on the website and find the same one cheaper than the dealer. I got mine for $79 last Spring. Go on Amazon and find the deltran battery tender which is the HD one as well for $26 versus $50 at the dealer. You have to get the batery from an EPD dealer in your area. Mine was 4 miles from my house.
