Securing mid gearshift lever when moving to forwards
It appears that there are a couple ways to secure the old gear shift lever without removing it. Some have suggested just leaving it unsecured, but I'd feel better about anchoring it to something.
On bikes before 2005 or 2006, the primary was apparently different than today, and Harley makes a part (actually two different versions, depending on the year) that secures the end of the gear shift lever to the case bolt behind the rear cylinder. This came in the floorboard kit, pointed out by FXD2003, and is available separately. However, neither of these two parts will work with the current primary design and the HD parts manager was unable to find a new version of this bracket.
Kury makes a small rubber-coated clip that secures the lever behind the primary by friction, held in place by the chrome cap that goes over the shaft spline. However, they don't sell this part individually, you can only get it with the full forwards kit, or with their hardware kit for $70. Part is shown in PIC.1 and PIC.2 in this instruction sheet: http://www.kuryakyn.com/documents/in...-22HD-0906.pdf
Does anyone know of a Harley part that will work on the 2010, or how to get one of these Kury clips? My alternative is to fabricate something.
Thanks for any ideas.

Look at picture 066 This is the clip I fabbed when I installed the floorboards on my Street Bob. Very simple: a small bracket with a v notch attached to one of the primary bolts. Back end is a bolt, spacer through the shifter spline hole attached to the new bracket. Black textured paint to match.

Here's the clip from the VTwin set:
And an image of the short (older) version from HD on my bike:
IMO it's not that hard to make one yourself...
