Default Origional Foot Position

I have an 03 Dyna Low. It had forwards when I bought it but now I want to go back to the original foot control position because on longer rides it hurts my back. What do I need to do to switch them out?

Find somone who just put fwds on thiers and buy them dirt cheap. You'll need the mounts, probably some hardware, and the linkages. Most everything you'll need will be taken off thiers when they install fwds. Better yet, put an ad on craigslist and get somebody to make an even trade. I'm sure somebody will bite.

The only thing you should check though, is that you don't have an exhaust system that will be in the way of mids. I don't think there are many, but some systems are set up for either or. Check the mfgrs web site to make sure if you can't tell.

Mike's advice on the controls is solid. But are you sure it's the controls that are causing your back to hurt? Certainly could be although I've never heard anyone complain of this. Usually back aches come from slouching, bad seats, and handlebars.

I used to have issues on my Electra Glide until I got a rider's backrest. Forced me to sit up straighter (I'm a sloucher) and completely solved the problem even on 600+ mile days.

Something to think about. Hope you get a solution - sucks to have backaches when you ride.

Good point. Do you have the stock bars on there? I had a bike with really low drag bars that crushed my back after 30 min or so. Mini apes were the answer for that. Taller risers might be a better route to take if you like yours though. I agree about the seat too. Solo seat=pain for me. I have a badlander now, and just that little bit of support from the passenger area really helps.

Another thing is, unless you're really short, ride a bike with mids. I feel too cramped on them and would never go back. It would suck to get them, then decide it was a mistake, because guys will just about give away mids. Not so much with fwds.

Check e-bay, I saw a set of mid controls there yesterday.

I see your point. I ride with 16 inch apes so maybe that's the issue, not sure.

In that case then, they may be too high for you. I've ridden a couple bikes with 16s and 18s. The 16s are okay for me, but the 18s are too high. I have to reach for them. The minis are perfect for me. I would like to run the wires internally, but I'm worried that will weaken them too much, they're not very thick.

Back to the seat then?

If you are leaning forward at all, that will be the problem. I too have never heard of anyone complaining of back problems due to forward controls. Make sure that your seating position does not have you leaning forward at all or reaching too high.
