Ben's Vtwins in Charlotte wants $125/hr for a tune...with most sessions taking up to 4hrs ($500 bill).
Both options aren't really an option for me at this point. If I'm going to drop that kind of coin on a tune, I'd rather drop the coin on either a used Tmax ($400 or so) or a new TTS $360 from JP cycles.
i paid 399 for my tune, it was 68 runs... was $ due to the SERT and having to shut down and reload the maps into it... i have the andrews 37 cams and could not be happier, they have great full range, a wicked sound, and match my wrist twisting addiction perfectly... i still have a bit of pop coming from the pipes on decel so i have to call the tuner back to see what they have to say about that
Man that is high for tuning a pc3, i called around today to see about getting a pcv done and was qouted 178-199 at three differnt places, the sert was 356. now I am very intrested in a new tuner, been kicking the idea of tts, or pcv. but i really think i am gonna go with the pcv because I am afraid I am not smart enought to do the tts. besides the tuner I talked to today said he can tune the pcv as well as sert.

I'd like to give Ben's V-twins my business but no way I can afford a possible $500 tuning bill. When someone charges by the hour, it doesn't put a whole lot of confidence in me because it says "We're not 100% sure how to tune this so we're going to make as much off of you as possible."
He did say "(insert actual tuner name) is the best in the southeast." I just replied with "ok."
Was I going to argue with the saying "on what credentials is so and so the 'best in the southeast'?" I would have liked to but we'll see. I should call back and get some references.
i just recently had my bike tuned and it was $250 out the door and any change after this $125... seem to be knowledgleble and nice... did a good job and turn around was 1 day... if a tuner has to charge by the hour instead of a flat rate thats a screaming red flag... the people i used specialize in tuning with power commanders and have the setup that checks exhaust a/f ration and gives a good baseline based on what the sniffers sense and then the dyno operator can go back and modify the suggested map to fine tune the bike... these guys do busa's as well as others...........just fyi

Bowman, I appreciate that info.
I don't want to go to a dealer. I really don't.
I also found another place not far from me but from their site they seem to specialize in metric sportbikes. Not sure how comfortable I'd feel letting them tune my bike. Again, I guess I'd have to find some hd riders who used their services for an unbiased opinion.
I think I'm surrounded by idiots.
Here is a quote from the other tuner not far from me...RC's Performance in Laurinburg, NC: (Make sure your mouth is not full of any liquid because you will spray it all over your monitor and/or keyboard)
"RC's Performance is one of the most respected tuning shops in the United States. Chuck takes pride in custom mapping every bike himself. He provides mapping not only at 100% throttle but from 0-100% throttle providing a highly tuned and very streetable map. We tune everything from All Motor Bikes, Nitrous, and Turbo Bikes. "
I'm soooooo glad he prides himself on not only tuning at WOT but also from 0%-100% throttle.

no doubt some tuners are better than others, i just don't have all the extra money to pay. i do love the best tuner in the.....comment, thats what my local moco told me today, but come on his name is dyno mike, course the builders name is harley dave, i mean u know thats a bad *** team! but he actually told me he really likes the pcv, he said its a great tuner and the sert only holds a slight edge. told me he really liked the sest, and i told him about the tts. that's what i really want but i am such a chicken ****.
I'll let you know when I do it. If the heads come back soon enough, I'll be doing it this weekend. That would make me very happy as I'm dying to get started. Saturday, I'll be changing the brake pads on my brother in law's bike, too. I have a feeling the heads won't be here in time. Maybe next week.
