I got my +4* advance gear yesterday. I'm a little confused. It's the one that fits on the crank. I really thought the advance was achieved using a different timing gear (the big one at top of the cam plate).

This is what Bob Wood shows on his site:

What I received from Andrews:
17t crank gear p/n:216323

On Andrews website, that part number is listed as the +4* advance gear.
Now I'm a little curious because Andrews p/n: 216015 is the 34t rear cam gear and looks like what Wood has on his site as being sold as +4 advance gear.

Wonder if I bought the wrong part.

Vic, post this on the Engine/Fuel/Intake/Exhaust page. The gearheads over there will know the answer.

I have Don, but I also figure that there are enough dyna owners who have used this gear and know what the deal is.

I would guess it could be done either way, I always thought it was the 17T gear. The gear in the pic is the older style chain set up, the splines and teeth are different.

Vic,

If your gear has a keyed groove like the one in the pic, it will not fit your 07. For 07 you would need a splined gear if going on the cam or a "D" cut gear if going on the crankshaft. See pic:

Thanks man. The gear I received is D-shaped.

Something doesn't feel right about this. Thats a quarter to show size. The part # on the package does not match the one I bought. I wanted andrews p/n 216323, what the packaging says is p/n:288020.

Appreciate that pic, Paul. Thanks. I am waiting on Mr. tech guy @ Andrews to get back from lunch. Want to make sure what I have is the right part before I tear it open. Not that I get to ride that much but....

I appreciate the info, Paul. Thanks.

Red/Rounder,

I was going to do the gaskets. Both dealers I went to had no clue what I was asking of them. After I asked the first parts guy for a .030 head gasket, all he said was "why?". I knew to stop right there. I'll check the catalogs.

Thinking about it, that means removing the TB to pull each head. Now I'm getting into an area that if I pull the head, I'd rather send it out for a proper port job and machining to bump compression. Remember, I'm doing this on a very tight budget and am unemployed to boot.

I wanted to do adj. rods it's just not in the budget right now. I know it would be something I'll end up doing once cash starts flowing in because then I'll be able to do the heads to compliment the cams....and if I tear it down that far chances of a 103" or bigger is possible. I'm eying the S&S 106 and am paying attention to others on here currently doing it. In due time. I know the TW6 would work very well in a 103. Not sure how they would work in the 106".

I'm just so tired of looking at these cams on my nightstand every night when I fall asleep. lol
SC, sounds like you are gonna end up with a very pleasing build. Bobby Wood has dyno runs posted on his site with various 106" and 107" builds with his TW6.
You are right, they are superb in my 103" build.
