Default Question on SE Stage I

Okay, for those of you who have had this done will my money be well spent?? (SE Stage I (air cleaner kit) with dealer update to ECM). Does it really make a big difference? I have a 2006 Stock FXDI. Thank you all in advance for any input.

Respectfully,

Cool

I don't think the butt dyno will be able to tell power wise. If you want to notice a difference I'd go with the SE a/c kit, aftermarket exhaust and a remap of some kind. Installing the SE kit is a breeze. I pieced it together from 3 different suppliers. Saved $30-40 bucks that way.

I noticed that the engine breathed better. It seemed to have more pull on the highway. I did the SE a/c, SE pipes, and remap on my '06 SG. Well worth the money.

I did the pipes first (SE II slip ons) then a week or two later a Ness Big Sucker and factory download. With pipes the bike seemed to come alive better but you would tell something was still holding it back. After the Air cleaner and download the bike had a much better response and ran cooler. You really need all three parts to make the stage 1 complete.

You will notice a difference if you add some slipons or pipes to that formula. I noticed you didn't list them. Spend $100 more and grab some Cycleshacks or other off eBay. All that extra air wants to go somewhere uninhibited, ya know?

I'd save the money on the download. Go ahead and get your pipes and when you're pretty sure you have the intake, filter and filter cover you'r gonna run,buy a PCIII for about 270 from fuel moto which will probably be too rich and then get a dyno tune for about 250. You're probably gonna end up doing this eventually anyway so why pay for the download.

Good Luck

Tom

You won't be making a mistake, but like whiffleboy wrote add a set of good pipes to make it even better.

I had mine done and the bike runs really well. I get the occasional backfire when I run it real hard but otherwise it's smmoth as silk and nice even power. IMO it's worth the $$.

Definitely worth the money....I've rented a number of stock dyna (88s)...I was never overly impressed with the power. Satisfied...but not impressed. When I got mine, and the dealer suggested the stage 1, I didn't even question it...just told him to do it. When I picked up the bike, I was definitely more impressed than with the previous rentals.
Don't get me wrong...the stage 1 isn't going to turn your bike into a dragster...but I think you'll notice a difference.
As was mentioned, I too get an occasional pop...but I'm also running an open element K&N filter...not to mention, I still have the 8 degree injectors (which is another discussion on about 5000 other threads).
I suggest you go for it...just my opinion.

Okay thanks to all for the response. From what I see I will need some exhaust mods too, slip-ons to improve the air flow. I guess I will put a few more miles on the bike and prehaps over the Winter do the work. I have a 1984 V65 Sabre so if I want speed I'll use that. However, the 2006 Dyna feels like it has more in it and I expect an air cleaner kit along with slip-ons and re-map. I do not expect it to run like a dragster but know it wants to breath better. Again thanks.
