Default Looking at a SERT

Yesterday after a friend was telling me that a dealer that I really don't like
is pretty good with thier service dept. I went up and talked to them about
installing a SERT. They want $485 for the SERT, 3-HOURS to install @ $78/hr.
I was told 3 hour min. on the dyno, could go 5 hours. On top of that, they
would not put a copy of my map on a cd. I was told that was propriatory
information. I looked around before leaving and was wondering with an A$$
screwing like that how could the place be that busy. I'll stick with Doc's,
at least I think they'll buy you dinner and a beer. LOL

Buy the SERT yourself, Zanotti's much cheaper. Use the canned map to get close. Find another dealer - you're paying for the map - for all you know, they could just do the HD download and walk away.

That is the plan. I guess I'm pissed about the screwing I've seen
in person and the ones I read about. If a auto service est. was
doing that, they'd be in some pretty deep crap. But when it comes
to the bikes, it seems like people take it on the chin or just don't
give a sh$t.

i have the sert and from what ive read its not your best choice. In the latest american iron there is a good article about dyno tuning, it says that lots of tuners wont even tune your bike if youve got a sert, Apperentley the pc3 is the best and fastest way to go, and the article did say it could take hours to properley tune with the sert. With the pc3 they can tune while the bike is running but not with the sert which eats up alot of time having to shut the bike down alter your map turn ignition off for ten seconds and then start. Not defending that dealer just saying what ive learned.

mikec, which dealer was it? If you could PM me I also am going to need a dyno tune in the near future and do not want to be raped.
Unless of course it is by a bunch of cute motoroclothes sales girls.[

I am only an hour from St.louis which means I am an hour away from every Dealer.

I'm in CA and the dealers won't touch either one, in fact now thier saying they can't do any mods at all. They'll still sell you SERT or cams or whatever they just won't install or tune anything.

It takes less than 10 minutes to install the SERT.

You plug it into the computer.

***** If you use a Laptop Make SURE is is plugged in and on the ac charger. If the battery dies while you are flashing the ECM you will be in electronic He!!

You plug it in to the connector under the fuse panel cover.

You turn on the key and the run switch.

You start the software on the computer. It marries to your MC ECM serial number.

You enter the download mode or the diagnostics mode.

It is installed.

They will flash with a canned map that is close to your configuration. They have to start somewhere. You can do this your self. Then it is as they are calling it installed.

Then they do a dyno pull and with the dyno numbers they will modify that map and flash the ecm again.

Dyno Pull. Modify the current map with the new data and flash the ecm again.

This is done until the dyno pull does not produce any new data to be modified.

Then they write the final map data to a file on the hard drive.

Get your self a new dealer.
