Yeah, most likely pinched in those housings. You have to be very careful with making sure the wires are in the one spot where they won't pinch, and make sure you don't break off your clutch or brake switch in the housing when re-installing.

Either you get the service manual and do it right the first time, or you pinch wires and break switches and learn the hard way.

I agree. The Service Manual is not an option, it is a must-have.

One note of caution. I swear, I think the Service Manual was written by Rube Goldberg. It will have you jumping through so many unnecessary hoops, it's just unreal.

For instance, I just put a MoCo Bullet Headlamp on my SG. I was so freaking confused. I came here for help but most of the guys had just cut and spliced the wires. I didn't want to do that. I downloaded the installation instructions from HDs website and I checked the Service Manual.

Both said it was necessary to remove the fuel tank to get to the wiring harness. Both instructed me to remove the fuel tank.

Both were full of crap. Totally.

All I had to do was take off the rubber grommet in the frame neck, pull out the slack built into the wiring harness (about a foot), unplug the old connector and plug in the new one. I was overly cautious because I had never done it before, so it took about ten minutes and a can of Bud Light. I could do it again in 30 seconds. Not the beer, just the wiring.

So, while the Service Manual really is a 'must have' you gotta use your head. It's a guide, not a true step-by-step piece of work.

When I put my grips on, the SM instructions would have had me doing totally unnecessary steps. The guys here saved saved me a bunch of time and frustation.

The SM is necessary, but not always......... Efficient.
