Noob Question - Fluid Capacities
I am getting ready to change my oil for the first time in my SG. I am going to use Mobil 1 V-Twin in the oil and primary, and Mobil 1 75/90 in the trans. My question is about how much to use...
My manual says 2.5 qts in the motor, 26 oz in the primary, and 20-24 oz in the transmission. When I've read through all of the posts, I've seen where people have said just use 2.5 in the motor, and then 1 qt each in the primary and trans.
While that would make things pretty easy, with no measuring involved, would I risk blowing out a seal or having too much pressure because I've added more than what was listed?
Sorry, if I'm overthinking it, but I want to do it right my first time out...

As stated, I do have a shop manual, but it does not say to use as much as a quart in each of the holes. However, I will work from everyone's experience... Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm taking a SWAG your bike is a 1999-2005 Superglide.. Then quantities will be correct. If you put 1 qt in the tranny you'll puke it out in front of your rear tire, if you put 1 qt. in the primary you have problems getting the bike into neutral. 06 models and newer are different animals. The eng oil is 2.5 qts.
My 2011 DWG (96ci) takes 3 quarts, primary takes 32 ounces and trans is also 32 ounces.

Go by what it says in your manual. Remember when you change engine oil, there's always some left that doesn't drain out. There's a "dry fill" and "wet fill" quantity. Put in 2.5 quarts and then check your dipstick and go from there. Also remember there's a hot level and cold level reading.
