Default Which Wheels Fit Which Bikes?

I see a lot of ads for OEM and "custom" HD wheels, and they're usually broken down by models and years.

I've also read of people using Night Train wheels on their Dynas, and HD even shows fitment for their custom wheels as several models.

So, can one fit a wheel from an FL on the back of a Dyna?

What are the differences between the wheels? Is it just the bearings? Spacers?

I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to put a 200mm tire on my bike. I'm perfectly OK with going with a 16" or 18" wheel to replace my 17". Neither one will bother me a bit, though I'd prefer to go 18" for a smidge extra ground clearance.

Anyway, is there a basic "rule of thumb"? Is there any sort of run-down on what fits what?

Thanks

Anything is possible but it won't necessarily be a bolt on scenario.

Most of the wheels require a "wheel install kit" which would include the proper bearing for your application. Your axle size dictates which bearing you need. 07-08 dyna had 1" axles. 09+ have 25mm. Prior to 07, I want to say axles were either 3/4" or 1". I can't say for sure.

With your stock rim, you will not find a 200m tire to fit. (17x4.5"). You'd need to go up to an 18"x5.5" rim. Because you're going wider, you need to make sure there is the clearance with your rear fender. I mean inside the rear fender.

So, find a wheel from a 07 or 08+ fxstc softail custom. They came stock with 200mm tires. Think you can switch the bearings if need be for your application. The 08 fxstc came with a 17 x 6 rear wheel. Not many 17" tires available on the open market. I'd go to an 18"x5.5 and you'd have more options as far as tires go.

I took a rear from a 03' Fat Boy and it was a direct bolt on using my stock spacers/axle.
It looks like the only bolt-on for your ride is - '06-later DynaŽ models (except FXDF and FXDFSE/2) and '00-'07 FXSTD models.
