Aint that the truth. More like the 1200-1500 range depending on what your definition of good is.

You crack me up Micahpop. Live long and prosper. I was thinking Klingons myself.

Now to the bike...I can't wait to see it in person. I like it!

I've been looking for something like that. Any install problems? How about comfort level?
thanks

Famous pricey HD saddle bags and a used to be new technology 103 engine.

I think the Switchback is a great idea but they dropped the ball a bit during the execution. I see all the positives and understand how they price their stuff, but know we could all do this cheaper on our own (and it would look better).
Really? So I could buy a NEW Super Glide with a 96 (the Wide Glide and Fat Bob are the only other Dyna's with a 103 and are only about 1K less in price), do a FL front end conversion, new front and rear fenders (including paint cost), new hardbags (again with paint cost), quick detach hardware, windshield, floorboard setup, wheels and tires (the FLD has different sizes), and the 103 conversion? Maybe with swap meet parts, but I still don't see how you will do it for much less than 3K.

Of course if the FLD is not to someone's liking as it is and they would make a lot of changes to it, then it probably would be better to build their own. But if the FLD IS what a new bike buyer wants as is, then I think they would be better off buying the FLD. I happen to like the FLD as it is (including the wheels) and would only make minor changes that I would probably do to any bike I bought anyway.

Now if I were to convert my 97 FXD to be like the FLD, then yes, it would be a lot cheaper. But it would be far from a new bike. For the cold weather, I have a Rifle fairing, and a crash bar with aftermarket touring lowers adapted to it that I put on my Super Glide. I still have my skinny little front end though, which I like when the bike is stripped back down.

If we are to belive the OP, ALL the Dynas would cost the same because "they just switch the parts at the factory"!

I say thumbs up to HD for building it.
Anyone that can handle the FLD can handle the RK or SG. It's a matter of whether their feet can touch the ground. In my experience the baggers are easier to ride than Dynas.

I like the bike...recently went this way with my bike after i decided that i wanted to cruise more with my fiance.

I like the stripped down look, but fully comitted to a Dyna Bagger and i love my bike...wouldn't make sense to trade it in IMO.

I think HD should have went with some bigger bags on the Switchback. They look a little small since they don't even hug the shocks...just my opinion from the pics and not fact!

My Corbins are rated higher capacity than the touring bags and you can still fill them up pretty quick...my girl needs all her hair products!

Good bags are expensive...I have about $1400 in mine and bought them used, but that is custom painted also. These are the only bags I wanted on my bike so i paid for it i guess.

I don't think the Switchback is too badly priced for a get on and go deal. I am past that price but my bike was originally a cheap black Bob when i got it! i don't do stock so I know that i can never get away cheap, but if i were into a new bike, I'd consider the Switchback.

the bags look humongous in this pic, but look proportionate in person.
