Your screen name is mracer and you never hit 100? Maybe you should go check on the battery tender hooked up to your covered bike.
well Tex-fastest I was ever clocked prior to retiring from driving nitro and alcohol funny cars and dragsters was 250 MPH in the quarter---I guess you missed the amusement in my post. I'm glad she caught the fun in my comment
Just did the stage1 on my 2010 ultra. Changed the airfilter, slip on pipes and the $200.00 ecm download. No a bit of difference other than a slightly deeper exhaust sound. I am hoping the engine will run cooler which was the reason i did all this. Can't tell as it is cold today.
Short answer, "NO" riding your late model HD will full exhaust and stage 1 air will not hurt the motor. Go ride, dont worry. Will the bike run better and produce more HP and Torque with a upgraded EFI unit? "yes" but it wont hurt anything without one.
My bike runs amazingly cool compared to what it was before I added my tuner. Even when I added my pipes and baffles, it ran so hot sometimes, I just had to stop and get off. Now I don't feel the same sort of heat after my breather and tuner has been done. I hope it works even better after this coming weekend when I get it back to the shop for them to fix the tune. I took it out again today and it is definitely too rich.

I got the "you need to do a TTS MasterTune" from the service writer when I told him I wanted to bring my '11 FXDWG in for it's 1,000 mile service, to get the EITMS enabled and needed to know what else it would need done since I'd installed V&H Big Shot pipes with heavy baffling and a Stage 1 breather.
As noted earlier in this thread, I've also heard from reliable sources and understand how newer EFI systems do a great job of adapting to pretty wide changes in operating conditions such that a 'chip' or special maps aren't needed for simple exhaust & intake changes.
When I put the V&H pipes on in mid-August I was getting a lot of popping on deceleration for the first few days / miles. But, by the time I filled the tank the ECU had made the needed adjustments and the engine was once again smooth on idle, decel, etc. Same thing seems to be happening with the Stage 1 intake installed this weekend.
My gut tells me to instruct the dealer to do the 1000 mi service (just to check the box before taking over the routine maintenence) and enable the EITMS and see how the bike behaves after that. The XiED sounds very tempting as an end run on addressing the H-D lean condition, and a heck of a lot more reasonable than the $700 they want for the TTS Kit + 4hrs tuning time: good grief.
Am I missing something here? 1st Harley and newest bike in the stable, 2nd newest was an '04 BMW R1150RT and the other current bike is an '03 BMW R1100S... with older, non-CANBUS systems and very limited EFI / ECU programming, i.e., they needed chips when the catalytic converters were removed and aftermarket induction / exhaust systems were installed.
