I had mine completely fixed about a year and a half ago - 9,000 miles later, not a peep. This seems to completely fix the problem... Happy to hear they're doing it for you.
Another question you could ask is how many failures have been reported in MY 2007 and up. Trust me, the problem isnt "fixed". Its only a lesser failure rate than the 06. Even the Baker bearing isnt turning out to be the end of it, the way I thought it would.
damn i was lucky then , first one went out at 7700, 06, they replaced it , and never made a sound, til i traded it off at 40k.. good luck on the next one..
"what kind of sounds should I be listening for with IPB failure?"
Sounds like a bad throw-out bearing on a car - like a spinning metal wheel on a roller skate. Starts out as a faint sound, and gets progessively more noticeable as time goes by.
You can hear it when bike is in neutral and clutch is out. Whirling noise goes away when clutch is in and bike is in gear.
Personally I went with the Baker bearing. I still consider it to be a normal maintainence item that I will replace annually during the off season.
Its easier to knock out the Baker bearing than deal with the press fit race on the Timken style OEM setup.
I use a Dremel so that I can get the inner race off without removing the sprocket and even if you use a bearing puller the suckers sometimes still need to be cut off.
Mind you don't go through to the gear shaft, just cut two grooves 180 degrees apart and tap the groove with a chisel....then remove the race by hand :-)
